Sapp getting in on the first ballot is disgraceful. Bus deserved to get in, the selection committee failed badly

Andre Reid deserves to be there too and look how many times he's been passed over. I actually think it's funny Strahan didn't get in because I can't stand the Giants and especially him. Also I could not STAND Warren Sapp when he played but I did enjoy watching him and Brett Favre go at it. My guess is since they put in the Tuna that made Strahan the odd man out. I bet next year he gets in. Also I think next year Bill Cowher is going in which will probably again keep the Bus from getting in. Would you say Cowher is a first balloter?

    Parcells wasn't a first-ballot selection. Cowher won't be, either.

I heard someone saying Parcells was held back because they kept thinking he wasn't done. Maybe that's true and maybe it's not but I wonder if they might feel the same way about Cowher?

    Warren SAPP?!?!?!

    WARREN @$#$##$%!!!! SAPP??????!!!!!!!???!!!!

Forget ever going to Canton. The HoF is officially a complete farce and no longer means what it used to... if it ever did. Someone please tell me on what friggin planet Warren Sapp deserves, or has earned a place there? Are we counting donuts eaten as a stat now?

Here is a list of HoF RBs looking UP at Jerome's rushing yards:

    Eric Dickerson
    Tony Dorsett
    Jim Brown
    Marshall Faulk
    Marcus Allen
    Franco Harris
    Thurman Thomas
    John Riggins
    OJ Simpson
    Joe Perry
    Earl Campbell
    Jim Taylor
    Larry Csonka
    Leroy Kelly
    John Henry Johnson
    Floyd Little
    Steve Van Buren
    Hugh McElhenny
    Lenny Moore
    Ollie Matson
    Gale Sayers
    Marion Motley

Now here's a list of the RBs above him who are not yet in the HoF:

    LaDainian Tomlinson (not eligible)

Someone please, please tell me WTF these voters are smoking? By ANY standard based on the guys already listed, Bettis belongs in the Hall. :bscow::bs::bscow:

Greene being third as all time sacker and the bus fourth in rushing yet coach Bill makes it in. Hell who's next U-hauler Mondell. Imo coaches and Exec. should have their own category not blended with the players. Disappointing for sure!

    Lol, it seems so.

I also agree with knab - mixing up the categories with coaches and players is just complicating things. While I see why people like Sabol get in, they shouldn't mix up media/marketing/organisation with people just playing the game. That way Sapp would also have even less of a claim to be in there.

How to get in the HoF apparently:

Become an overrated, hype machine in college. Have 2 good years total, and live off your hype the rest of your career. Get in a few Pro Bowls through name recognition only.

How NOT to get in the HoF:

Be in the top 5 for career sacks. Break the NFL single season sack record. Oh yeah, be the dominant player on a dominant defense that wins the SB. Be the face of your defense. Go to many Pro Bowls deservedly.

    Or...

Be as high as #5 all time rushing. Still be #6 after someone barely passes you by after you retire. Have an ungodly number of 100 yard games. Make 1000 yard seasons seem too commonplace. Be the dominant power rusher on the most dominant rushing team in the league the better part of a decade. Despite being known as a pounder, lead the league in carries for 20+ yards a season or 2. Forge a reputation for being a nightmare to try to tackle and along the way, create a career highlight reel of power running. Be the face of a team that didn't even draft you.

    Or...

Be 1B to Joe Greene's 1A on the defensive line for arguably the greatest front 7 to ever play the game. Be an integral part in one of, if not THE best defense of all time, and without argument, the best defense for an entire decade that won 4 Superbowls.

Seriously. Those voters are on crack.

    :this!:

My biggest issue is the lack of consistency in how certain "standards" are applied or ignored.

Yeah these guys are hacks for sure. They try to take the "sexy" name or whatever. Since Jerome wasn't known as some new age speedster he's not as appealing to them. I think they view him more as a product of an offensive scheme that anyone could have ran in. Ironic given that the Tampa 2 (which was basically a rip off of Chuck Noll's 70s system) might have been the reason Sapp did so good. If I'm not mistaken when he went to Oakland it was basically to die right? But don't forget this is the same group of morons that waited til Derrick Thomas DIED to put him in and STILL haven't put in Andre Reed although he went to 4 Super Bowls and was a great WR. Also they've not put Charles Haley in and he's got 5 rings! They're a bunch of idiots for sure.

I dont think being done coaching has anything to do with selecting coaches, Joe Gibbs got in and then went back to coaching, I think they waited a long time to put Dick Lebeau in because he was still an active coach but they couldnt stand the pressure from players like Rod Woodson campaigning for him to get in, so they elected him as a player, yet he wasnt retired as a coach...

My disappointment comes from the way that one of the sportswriters described their decision-making process on the NFL Network broadcast last night.

They were blown away that Sapp was only one of two guys ever on two All-Decade teams. That really doesn't impress me. That has more to do with timing than anything else. How many players actually have careers that play well into two seasons? Before I looked it up I thought, "Sapp was probably drafted in like 1995 giving him an equal split in two different decades." Yep. That's exactly when he was a rookie.

It's not like Rod Woodson was going to make that list playing from 1987 to 2003. His body of work was really only relevant in one decade.

I think Warren Sapp is a HOF'er, but I think Michael Strahan has a better resume.
