Good luck BUS on being elected to the Hall of fame later tonight....
Time for you to take your place in the "Steeler wing" Although you should have gone last year!
An all time Steeler great! Wish we had more players on and off the field like the Bus! :towel:

A lot of really good players are eligible to go in this year but i would think Jerome goes this time.
I know i'll blow a gasket tonight if they put that bum Sapp in at all. None the less before Jerome.

I think Bettis gets in next year. Despite all the rushing yard, people don't recognize him as an all-time great.

I think fans recognize him as one. In fact, he's easily one of the most "recognizable" RBs of all time. In my utopian view, a player's "presence" in and out of the game should be a factor in his entering the HOF. And sometimes it seems to: for instance, many argue that Namath and Swann do not have the numbers/career stats to be the HOF. But they were great players who transcended the sport. That counts for something. Bettis is a legendary figure. His counterpart, Curtis Martin , IS NOT. I guarantee, if both men walked through an airport, many, many, many more people would recognize Jerome before recognizing Curtis. But the public doesn't vote on the HOF: a bunch of uptight, NY/Boston-biased sportswriters do. And so Jerome will continue to sit while Martin's bust sits on display. It's... :bscow:

I completely agree wit this post, and I feel the same way about Martin. You could write history of the NFL without Martin, but not the Bus.

I hope Jerome gets in too. I also wish Kevin Green would get in there too. I'm not even sure if he's a finalist this year though. Also I agree that L.C. Greenwood should be in there. Since some consider the Steel Curtain to have only been the d line it's odd that only one of those linemen has made it to Canton.

I'm gonna guess one of these wr's who have been waiting gain entrance (Brown, Carter). I think a couple of first-time ballot guys on the o-line are (or at least should be) locks: Ogden and Larry Allen. Throw The Bus and Charles Haley in and I think that's your group.

I think The Hall wants The Bus in with them going into their 50th Anniversary in Canton and all. I think they want a HUGE turnout in Canton this August and nobody on that list would ensure that more than #36. Not sure what kind of 'lobbying' could be done for that purpose though.

    I think that's a nice conspiracy theory but . . . here's the list of sportswriters who vote: http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/selectionprocess.aspx

Looks like a pretty diverse mix to me.

Very uninspiring ballot. Doesn't give very many casual fans a reason to travel to Canton this august.

The bias has nothing to do with where they're from. Whether the writer is in Texas, Georgia, or California, there is a media slant to the east coast. The fact that Andre Tippett got voted in AHEAD of Derrick Thomas was, to me, all the proof I needed that the bias exists.

I am shocked that Strahan didn't get in. But Parcells did.

Here's the standard for Olinemen getting in on their first ballot:

    4-time, first-team All-Pro. That's Ogden's resume.

So it makes sense that a 6-time first-team All-Pro would get in first ballot, like Larry Allen did today. So why did it take Dawson (six-time first-team All Pro) four years? (Yeah, I'm nitpicking...but I just can't get past the inconstencies in how these people vote.)

The football hall of fame is the same as the baseball hall. Its a popularity contest. They admit that more steelers from the 70's deserve to be in but say their are enough steelers from that team. Its all a joke

I agree with DS, the average or even a seasoned fan would not travel to Canton for that group. I think Chris Carter has waited long enough. There is no Running Backs with the Bus's size could run with the nimble feet that he has, Curtis Martin only beat out the Bus with a few more yards.

Can it get worse for Steelers fans? In one weekend we watch the Bus get the shaft, a Raven AND Cowboy make it in, AND see the Rats play in the Super Bowl???! I think the only thing worse will be if the Rats WIN the game. This team better get their crap together and QUICK!
