with holcomb probably starting on IR to begin the season, this is a good signing. with the new kickoff rules it will be a needed position for ST's. he and killebrew and patterson and johnston will make our special teams better. we need to win that third phase of the game.

Oh great, 'Dirty Red'(and I can barely type that name without vomiting due to excessive cringing) is back! Nobody is redder or dirtier!

I got good news, 'Dirty Red' is gonna swaddle you in a Terrible Towel and chase all your fears back into the darkness, my friends!

How long till we hear how 'Dirty Red' is gonna save us? How he's secretly the best LB we have? How long till we hear "You'll see, this is 'Dirty Red's' big year. He's gonna bust out! You can only hold back greatness for so long!"?

It's not a shock that the last time that we won a playoff game was 'Dirty Red's' rookie year. Save me 'Dirty Red'! Save US 'Dirty Red'! We were NOTHING while you were gone.

Some folks here were delusional about Matakevich in the past, but I don't mind this signing. He can help on special teams if he makes the Steelers. He isn't much worse than Robinson if they get stuck using him on defense. I'm guessing those two will be competing for a spot on the roster.

 

Ravens signed Derek Henry, that makes this a good signing. Derek won’t be running up the middle against us.

 

This signing might mean Holcomb starts the season on the active PUP list.

 

Or they just wanted more special teams help. The guy is 31 years old and he has one career start.

 

There was some different podcasts talking about what this means and included thoughts on Holcomb. The most ridicules tag line that showed up was The Steelers signed someone to challenge TJ and this made Herbig tradeable, lmao. For me, seeing how many ILB's they went through last year it makes sense to have a body. Nothing more or less. Perhaps there is sp team alignment they want to have or be prepared for, push Robinson or others, but bottom line at this point an experienced and cheap option to go into camp with.

 

I wouldn't be surprised if Matakevich beats out Robinson for a roster spot, they lost a lot of guys this offseason who were special teams players Matakevich was probably signed to make up for those losses.

 

Guys that hit hard and make tackles are always needed, especially on ST. Matakevich and Robinson could both make the roster on ST.

Queen, Roberts, Wilson, and Holcomb as the ILB rotation, with Matakevich and Robinson on ST as well as backup LBs in case of injuries.

I have no idea how this new KO setup is going to work personnel-wise.
