Love that Keisel is stepping up and sort of calling the guys out. But the saddest part about that article is that Keisel said about the loss to San Diego that he didnt feel the guys were "ready to play that day." Thats crazy to think about in my mind, its one thing to come out, play your heart out and come up short, but to not even be ready to play? That falls on leadership and coaching. Someone needs to step up, be a leader, and inspire these guys. Light a fire under their butts and kick them into gear.

FINALLY! We hear a Steeler say that they are NOT pulling for the Ravens. He did say he thought the Ravens would win but that he's not pulling for them. Thank you, Beard!!!

As for the young players stepping up, Heyward and Hood are the two that need to the most in 2013 in my opinion. They have failed to live up to their billing thus far and it's time to show they belong.

brown and sanders and the RB's , woodley, worilds, mclendon. those two are not alone as far as needing to make things happen on the field, thats for sure jack. pouncey may have had his worst year since he's been here too. i didn't think it was bad but not his best.

Once again as long as you have DL and MT running the show
you will see player development STUNTED oh lets say for about 2-3 years.
Tell me why Mclendon did not play more? Tell me if Spencer doesn't get hurt,
if Larry Foote plays more than him? There are far too many of these stories.
OMG look at Hood, Heyward, 2 #1 draft picks who have done NOTHING.

keisel has always took responsibility for his weaknesses along with his peers... his famous quote "we didn't get it done". the 11yr.vet has been straight forward on and off the field. Leadership is a locker room commodity.

butler doesn't think to highly of rookies either, so him taking over we may not see much change then either.

The young guys on offense need to step up as for the young guys on D, how can they step up when they aren't getting the playing time? This falls on Lebeau for playing the old farts too much.

Hows that? Butler doesn't get to tell Dick who plays and who doesn't. We won't know that until he takes over. But I also don't think this falls on one specific person, it seems that's the way it has always been, going back to Cowhers days anyway, rookies are slow to take the field.

read his comments last year from the time they drafted spence (remember he and tomlin went to miami to look at him not DLB) to the time he thought he was looking better then he first thought during camp, to the end of camp when he said he was far ahead of most LB'ers at that age. that all came from butler. how do you know how it works between the assistants at positions and who plays? these position coaches know their players better then DLB. they work with them daily. i'll bet you they have more input in that then you think.

I'm sure they do have a lot of input, and they give that input to DL and DL decides who plays. Not a chance in hell Butler is making the final decision on who starts and who doesn't. I also don't believe that position coaches know the players better then DL, probably about the same.

believe what you want, but i have been a head coach and a coordinator as well as a position coach on a small college level. i guarantee the pros are far more advanced because they don't have players in classes. i can tell you the coordinators have game plans to make for each week and schemes to implement for so many different offensive schemes and where to put which type of player matchups against numerous offensive plays and those change alot during the year. i'm not saying DLB doesn't know his players but butler knows his guys far better to fit dicks defenses and who is capable and who yet isn't. you may be right about it though, but not in my expieriences.

the position coaches are going over film, having meetings, teaching techniques, and teaching the DC's schemes to their players for everything the DC wants to use. he knows who can do what the DC wants to do. if any player doesn't do well at what the DC wants, he's not going to use that player and create a weakness in the overall scheme.

the DC has the D-line to scheme , the OLB's to scheme, and the corners and the safeties all to make his defense work against anything the offenses may throw at them. he also has to study what stregnths the players on the other teams do well and don't do well and find out what weaknesses those teams have. he's far to busy to do individual player evaluations. he knows that by what the position coaches input to him.

I don't doubt any of that, I'm saying that if DL want's someone in there, that Butler doesn't have the authority to tell him no. I'm sure it's a collaboration, I'm sure DL heeds much of Butlers input about individual players but he does have final say. As I said, this doesn't seem to pertain to just one coach anyway, whether it's Butler, DL, Tomlin, Haley all the way back to Cowher and his staff, rookies always seem to have a hard time getting on the field.

i would think MT has the Final say, but yes it's all a collaboration between coaches, and your right most rookies don't. butler however was always the one talking about spence suprising him and earning starting reps as they went along last year.

i am also very happy that we picked up rolle in the offseason as an ILB. he is a spence clone but slightly heavier. they have plans for this type of player beside timmons it seems. part of the reason i'm skeptical about them going ILB early in the draft. we also have mcfadden that showed some flashes last preseason and wilson was also added. these guys seem alot more then just camp fodder. rolle for sure.

i still think butler is along the lines of DLB in keeping young guys benched to long though , like DLB. lake doesn't have that choice though, that's all he gets to work with at corner. it seems the front 7 coaches and DLB like the vets more.

Actually Rooney has final say ;) I would love to see Lake be the next DC, I have nothing against Butler and I am interested to see what he can do but I just think Lake has that 'it' factor to be a successful coach.

carnell is a smart guy and one of the nicest people you would want to meet. i got to know him a little when he was playing. i'd just hate to lose him from what he does best and thats coach our young db's. he should have some safeties coming his way soon too. i also hope he can keep his young new corner in lewis. he's made a difference in lewis' game, moreso then horten did while he was here. it definately shows. without a shot at DC we possibly stand a chance to lose him down the road, i'd think. i sure hope not.

Also probably a little raw to take over at DC? Maybe not but I agree, he's done a terrific job with our secondary. I hope Lewis comes back, I think Cortez has a chance to be something special, I'd have to think we pick up a safety in the draft too, I think it's pretty deep in safeties this year isn't it? Going into next season, the secondary is one of the area's I feel best about.

i like alot of the new parts in place on defense. i think they have a chance to be very solid if they can keep those guys improving and together.
