What they have figured out is that they want to be football factories and not institutions of higher learning. Vandy is the exception, and notice that they can't compete. Over the past decade, the academic reputations, overall, of SEC schools has dropped significantly. A degree at most ACC schools is worth a heck of a lot more than degrees earned at SEC schools. In general, ACC schools are still in the business of being top-notch schools. Same with the Big 10 and PAC 12.

you know i hate that arguement. alabama for example graduates more of their athletes than four big ten schools. just for your info vandy is not only competing they are winning. just because you excel in a sprt doesnt mean tat a degree means less. these schools have 20 thousand students. tell them their degree doent mean as much

Here are the rankings. Sure, there are individual programs that may be better in some schools, but these are the top 50 U.S. universities, overall:

    http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/spp+50

The SEC has ONE school in that top 50. Vandy. Meanwhile, the PAC12 has FIVE...the ACC has SIX...Big10 has FIVE...I do believe these rankings (and Georgia, Alabama, and Florida's annual tumble downward) suggest a culture at SEC universities. Their academic reputations are suffering as they cater more and more to their athletic departments. These schools have become diploma mills...so your argument about the # of degrees "handed out" makes perfect sense. Are they worthless degrees? I can't say. But all things being equal, a Michigan grad will beat out an Alabama grad; a UCLA grad will beat out a Georgia grad. Every time.

i do have to disagree with your last staement. a friend of mines brother got a job with houston consulting firm WCCI,INC. out of 35 applicants including degrees from virginia, dartmouth, and minnesota. he got the job with degree from ole miss. a new position is opening up and is going to a man with a degree from okl.st. so its not everytime

i do understand what you are saying. the sec does it in football but the acc and big ten sacrifice alot for basketball. if a kid can play they find a way to get him in school. several years ago a local high school kid who failed 2 classes in high school somehow got into maryland. ended up hurting his knee after sophmore year and lost his scholorship. came home and could even pass community college. but he could pkay basetball
