Cam Sutton suspended first eight games

dang, that is a tough one...hopefully Steelers are committed and can make it work.

 

brutal - they will appeal, it may get reduce a game or two......but......

NFL players (not all) prove that money doesn't buy happiness or maturity.

I get they are young men with ego's but give me that kind of money in my 20's and I'd have got help from smarter people.

Was hoping it would only be 4 games. This sucks but you should never lay your hand on a woman so I don’t feel bad for him.

 

The Steelers fan in me says that I hope they can get it reduced. The husband side in me says only eight games? Got off light.

I knew something was coming..... I hear that the extra time was largely due to Sutton hiding out for so long before finally turning himself in

I thought it was due because of the fact he choked her out and the repeated striking; according to the police report. So I guess 6 weeks for the minimum, and then 1 week for choking her out, and then another week for continuing to beat on her after she was down and out.

NFL rules say extra time for choking your victim. (choking, repeated striking)

An initial domestic violence offense will draw a six-week ban without pay, although the memo says "more severe discipline will be imposed if there are aggravating circumstances such as the presence or use of a weapon, choking, repeated striking, or when the act is committed against a pregnant woman or in the presence of a child."

A second offense will result in banishment from the league, but a player will be allowed to petition for reinstatement after a year.

 

Keep in mind this is a Russell Wilson situation where Cam Sutton is still getting paid by the Lions.

Last year Cam signed a $33 million contract with $22.5 million guaranteed. Lions are still trying to get his GTD money thrown out because of his behavior.

The lengthy suspension could help the Lions in their quest to have his guaranteed money voided. The team filed the necessary paperwork to have Sutton's contractual legacy voided for his conduct, but Sutton apparently filed an appeal to keep at least some of the $10.5 million the Lions had previously guaranteed to him.

didn't know all that. i don't think it was long enough then. he should be in jail if true.

As long as its not Patrick Peterson i'm good with bringing in someone else. Stephon Gilmore is out there but a lot of teams are showing interest.

There are plenty of nuts in the NFL.

He was a homegrown player for us and played quite well. Went to the Lions and got paid. Fizzled playing out of position. Then the unthinkable happened.

What he did was inexcusable. Hopefully he is getting professional help which I believe he is.

 

How ever many games he gets will reduce his salary cap number. If it is 6 games that will be about 426k.

 

would think Gilmore would fit better in the slot that "grab and go" Peterson. smaller frame, quicker - yes?

Steelers knew suspension was coming so nothing new here - just length of it. But will have him for the stretch run , most important......and a healthy body to enter 'the war'
