I think Denny McClain won 31 games one season. We will never see that again.

In all probability Skenes won't be a Pirate for long. I say we use him every 4 days and burn his arm out since it won't matter to us. Actually I wish the youngster all the luck in the world. I just hope he isn't a Phillie one day.

 

I took a good look at the Mets. Man they are so much better then us. Alas, they sat on their couch watching the World Series just like the Pirates.

NY Mets "Total Payroll Allocations" is 310 million. Coming in at 29th is your beloved Pittsburgh Pirates at a whooping 85 million. Only the future Las Vegas A's are worse.

Sure have. Sandy Koufax led the National League in complete games (27), innings pitched, and strikeouts his last two years. Both years over 300 innings pitched, one year almost 400. And then he was done, aged only 30. Six years older than Braxton Ashcraft, who we have not even seen yet.
Pitchers of that era were criminally overused. Denny McLain was toast like two years after winning 31 games. A few lasted a long time but mostly they were rode hard and put away wet.

We have 2 catchers on the roster. Two are not hitting even .200 and the other is at .000 How cool is this?

 

Falter got out of a 2nd and 3rd no outs in first. Still long way to go.

 

Not paying much attention to the Pirates lately, but I think I know how they could succeed: just clone Paul Skenes! I know it seems far fetched, but remember that UPMC is in the forefront of many new medical technologies. If there were four more clones of Pornstache, they could make up an entire pitching rotation!

Comcast does it too. It's the first week of season and at the All-Star break. They want you to buy the package at half price come All-Star break. I use to say if the Pirates are hot at the ASB I'd buy it but they never are.

This season a friend gave me his password and I can watch any MLB game on my 32 inch desk top. I only watch the Pirates and only until they fall 5-6 games under .500 which is happening soon.

 

I fully expect to lose 4 of next 5 games. Maybe all 5.

Ortiz and Keller for next 2 against Mets. I have a bad feeling Skenes loses his first game in old Milwaukee.

Kind of see why Bobby boy doesn't spend the money. The Mets are far and away the highest paid team in MLB and as of right now they are 1 game under .500. All that money and no World Series.

Now if Bobby boy would just up the spending a tad I think we could be in the picture in the NLC. Speaking of the NLC, I bet the Cardinals make some moves and give the Brewers a run for their money.

Another great start by a Pirate pitcher. Ortiz had some nasty stuff. Won't matter we can't hit the ball so I'm 99.9% positive we will lose this game.
