2024 Pittsburgh Pirates

This is absolutely our best team since 2018. Still can't believe they won 98 games in 2015. Then promptly lost WC game.

 

Unfortunately Davis' AAA stats do not and have not translated well at the MLB level. If the pitching isn't suffering from the 2 catchers we have right now and their hitting isn't any worse than what Davis was doing, I'd say let him stay at Indy and really work out all the kinks in his offense AND defense and bring him back up in due time. Bae is a utility player and probably will be a quick call up for an injury replacement or total melt down by another similar player for which there are several candidates. They seem to be playing musical chairs with his type.

 

They're two back of a playoff spot right now. If Atlanta doesn't sweep them which I believe is highly likely they will be in big trouble. It will be tough to recover from that

 

Next 16 games are nasty. Braves, Mets, Cardinals, Brewers and thankfully worse team in MLB White Sox in Chicago. As I said before, I'm hoping they can go 6-10.

 

Well I like our pitching match-ups against Braves. Perez gets another shot at starter. He did good job last time out. Then it's Mr. 4-0 Paul Skenes. Gonna hate his first L. Then we have to hope Falter does not falter.

 

Braves have been playing .500 ball for a few weeks. Maybe the Pirates can visualize the Braves wearing Dodger unis and play them close? Or visualize Sid Bream rounding 3rd? Tonight's game has Michael Perez just back from IR up against Charlie Morton. Easily in Braves favor. Skenes is throwing Saturday's day game, hopefully the O can give him some breathing room. They're showing Falter again on Sunday with Jones not scheduled till Tuesday? Something strange with that sequence.

 

Never cared for Chapman when he was a Red Leg but it was sweet seeing him take it to them in a Bucco uniform this past week.

 

Yep, I wonder where Jones fits in? Took a week off after nearly decapitating that guy with a 100mph fastball? Man I thought that guy was dead.

Caught a little of tonight’s game, 1-1 in the 6th. Skenes’ velocity was down, only about 98. He used the splitter a lot. He was still effective. He was slightly over 100 pitches, and I think that will be it.

 

Another stellar performance by the bullpen

 

Game exclusively on Roku Channel this morning, started at 8:30 am on Left Coast. Up 4-1 but a lousy production with lame commercials and lack of replays. Bucs had 2 2 run homers in a row with barely any replays. BRs hit streak ended but I'll take a W any day.

 

Cardinals coming to town Tuesday. Bucs 3 games under at the moment. Cards seem to be picking it up a bit. Be happy with 2 of 3.

If other teams line up their best pitcher every time Skenes is on the mound for us he'll never get W's, Bucs ain't hitting the better pitchers, but will have a great ERA and that is what the money teams will look at.

 

I think they know all about stuff like that when considering a pitcher. I'm not sure what Skenes is worth in trade right now but I'm assuming it would be a real deal maker for the pirates

I read this nonsense a little while ago. Our hitting will just magically improve and we will get better. I feel that they will waste the best years of Jones and Skenes, and almost hope they are traded for the usual handful of beans so they escape this awful club.
I am not paying any more attention to the Pirates unless they get some hitting.

Apparently Rahdy got help from an outside hitting coach and started knocking the cover off the ball. Might want to give Suwinski and Taylor (and a few others) his number. Taylor has been essentially an average hitter in the recent past, and you could live with that to get his defense.
Andy Haines should be playing bridge somewhere (maybe underneath the West End Bridge) with Matt Canada.
