Yeah they always look for the Pittsburgh tie in... Why are they trying to steal someone else coordinator though? And why would he want to leave if he has been in DC so long? Seems like a fruitless endeavor???

But, I always thought it was because Cowher was from the Burgh, why would Tomlin go after Pitt guys too? unless he is not the one making the hires. Colbert is from the Burgh, maybe he has half a say about it???

Wouldn't they have to give him a promotion if it's a lateral move and not coming in off the street? Or is that only for coordinators?

Why do they look for western pa ties seems pretty simple to me. Western pa is one of the football meccas.

Maybe that is part of the problem with the team. Whoever does the hiring needs to think out of the box and look beyond the burgh.

I dont understand there thinking?? With my wife being as die hard for the Skins as we are for the steelers i tend to follow them some also. We have both been saying for a couple years they need to get rid of Smith if they want the ST to improve. He shows flashes of brilliance but nothing solid to me. Who knows, maybe he can pull a Suisham and leave the skins and land in Pitt and have a complete turnaround???? Just not really sold on the guy!

Agree and theirs always too much read into a breaking story that has not yet materialized.

It's been working well for the most part. No need to throw you're standards out the window based on an 8-8 season!

Anything is better than what we had, and this guy seems to know what he's doing. Who knows if he will come to the steelers, but we all know money talks.

Do we need an upgrade at the coaching level? Yes!! But we also need an upgrade at the onfield talent level also. No matter who the coach we get is, if we don't improve our bench which is the core of the ST we want see much of an improvement.

I thought you couldn't hire a coach as a lateral move from team to team. Am I wrong on this?

I don't believe it's against any league rules if the original team gives permission.

Steelers looking at LSU assistant for special teams coach

Gerry Dulac just posted that we are considering LSU assistant Thomas McGaughey for Special Teams Coach. Here's what he said:

"The Steelers are considering LSU assistant Thomas McGaughey as a replacement for departed special teams coach Amos Jones.
McGaughey, 39, has been the special teams coordinator at LSU the past two seasons. Prior to that, he was a special teams assistant coach with the New York Giants from 2007-2010.

The Steelers have also received permission to interview Washington Redskins special teams coordinator Danny Smith, a Pittsburgh native and Central Catholic High School graduate."

He's a DC sports anchor, but yeah, it's always some secret source. :smiley1:

He's not the only one reporting it, and he wasn't the originator. A DC sports radio guy was the one to first report it.

I've not seen anything confirmed officially by the team, but it seems likely.
