He is 28 and he caught 78 passes just two years ago. Most of the scrubs the Steelers signed this offseason are farther removed from their last productive season in the league. He doesn't seem to fit their model of relying on speedsters on the outside, but the real question is if his knee issues have robbed him of too much of his athleticism to be effective. Kicking the tires wouldn't be a terrible idea, but only if he comes very cheap.

I agree but he would been a good option if he could still run

I thought it was the Patriots contract of 3 years $33 million is the reason JuJu left town.

JuJu was Ben's go to guy on 3rd down. It is 3rd and 4, who on this team is going to be the sure-fire 1st down WR? I think right now it would be Pat, not sure which one of the WRs on the team is ready to be your go to guy on 3rd down. You can give Roman this job next year, but JuJu would be welcome this year on a 1 year team friendly deal.

Ben always seemed at the head of the resign JuJu parade in the offseason.

That is not correct. Smith-Schuster didn't sign that deal the year he left the Steelers. He went to the Chiefs for a year first, then signed with the Patriots.

Well past his prime implies that his prime was many years ago. He is 27 years old and just one year removed from a very productive season, so no, that's not well past his prime. Past it? Sure. No argument there. Knee issues seem to have robbed him of much of his athleticism.

yes - Knee problems, toe problems, shoulders - you name it, it ruins or ends many a career. He was never a burner - speedster. I always liked him, when he was here and what he meant to those teams. but those were his best years. He won't ever be better that again.

Mahomes of course made him look good, but he is a goat.

so - I don't see a spot for him here.

We saw two extremes. The Patriots' offense was a disaster last season. Somehow, the Steelers made them look good for a half, but it was tough for any receiver to look good for them in 2023. I'm not all that enthusiastic about signing Smith-Schuster, either, but he's better than the collection of scrubs they signed this offseason.

After watching almost every game for the St. Louis Battlehawks, I still feel that we should bring Hakeem Butler back to camp. He's a physical specimen at 6' 6" and runs a 4.5 40. He showed a lot of toughness 3 weeks ago when he took 3 huge hits and stayed in the game. Plus, he's a really good route runner. I seriously think he could be at least a #4 or #5 receiver on this team.

    scrubs - maybe.

JuJu maybe #3 or 4 on this roster. But he is not 1 or 2 - those spots are taken.

So, I doubt he shows up in camp, but stranger things have happened.

Still need an OLB - that is higher on my list than JuJu, bring Golden back....

    and need another CB.....

No. 2 is not taken. That's the problem.

I doubt they are spending much on a fourth outside linebacker. Herbig is going to be No. 3 this season. Would Golden return to play even less?

I agree that they still need another cornerback.

Khan has done a lot right, but at best, his grade for this offseason is incomplete.

He is a rookie who was taken in the third round. He hasn't taken anything yet and relying on him is foolish.

Wilson might not be a #2 WR yet, but relying on him isn't foolish I expect him to catch 40-50 passes this season.

I'm looking forward to it. I think all 3 TEs can be utilized in the passing game.

Washington is a great blocker but the man can catch.

It does seem to go against the grain of having that 2nd veteran WR that might be a little over the hill but has had a career of showing they can be productive.

So far, only really Pickens and Friermuth hold that honor. Everyone else are question marks. So I find it very surprising they didn't bring in that 'veteran' guy as the #2 but appear to be depending on Wilson and Austin.

Your expectations are irrelevant. He might do that, but you are putting way too much stock in a receiver taken in the third round this year.

didn't we put a lot of stock in another 3rd rounder and a 6th rounder. why not expect similar production from another 3rd rounder?

    shut up Kaboly.

who last year instilled any other fear into the defense except Pickens?

    how about this:
a QB that can throw and read a defense.
moving 88 to the slot - and using a talented Washington at TE too.
and a RPO / play action option that Canada / Pickett had NO CLUE about.

I'll bet ANYONE HERE with this current O roster that we are ranked better than 27 / 28 - last years ranking - with this new offense.

    any takers?

Top 5 D, ~ 20-25 ranked Offense, MORE POINTS. it is what it is......an improvement.

I'll tell you one thing they are NOT going to sign Brandon Aiyuk. After the Jefferson contract he is going to get upwards to 30 large a season. Plus if he were to come in he wouldn't be the #2.

He did pretty dang good with Kansas 2 years ago. And he's 27.... he's not past his prime.
