I'm not arguing with you, just trying to understand why he hasn't gotten a starting job?

The Steelers have always leaned towards the incumbent unless the guy behind him just blows him away. Also when Hampton got to 100% our rush defense for better by leaps and bounds. If we could get big snack back for the vet min I would take it though with all the 3-4 teams now I doubt that will happen I'm saying Hampton to the cards.

i'm not sure it's all DLB either. MT has stated before that guys won't lose their job because of injury. hampton came back from his. he played good at times too.

this could be the best thing to happen with casey, he's fighting for his spot. he hasen't had to do that much since he's been here. we all know he's unstoppable when he's mad, maybe this is a touch of that motivation.

i didn't know that. i was looking for it when TE said that and found one that said even after the 3 were dropped, he still had two other felony counts against him along with the lesser charges. i'll try to find it again. i originally thought there were 5 or 6 felony charges at first. interesting though.

He's got to be under contract with the Steelers first.

Do you know that fans always know whats best for the team based on limited knowledge? The coaches know more in regard to what the players can do/did then the fans. A player can make one play and in the mind of the fans that player should be getting more playing time. Fans don't know how often that player screw up in practice or how that player made mistakes within the over all scheme of things. I believe that coaches generally play the best players. After all, coaches jobs are on the line.

Evan at Casey's advanced age he is still the better run defender, which apparently is still very important to our coaching staff. I think the future DL of McClendon, Ta'Amu, and Heyward can be very disruptive in the backfield, but will also yield more rushing yards which may not be a big deal. The more we see of the athletic QB's I think we need a more dynamic DL, and the three guys I mentioned can provide it. I don't see Hood being disruptive, which stinks because he is so weightroom strong and durable.

As you can see from my first post in this thread, I like the 6 guys we have already. I am not a fan of Woods and would have kept Corbin Bryant instead this past season. That being said, I don't think Hood would make a good NT, but I do think McLendon could play the end, but I could be wrong. The guy makes plays, that is what I like seeing about him.

Ok I just went and looked at some stats everyone agrees that the beard is a good de and hood sucks yet if you look at their stats they are comparable and I'm talking even when beard was young. Also other then a few seasons when smith went off hood stats hold up to his. This was hood's first year as the full time starter so some people may need to open their eyes up. If you think every 3-4 de is going to het 8 sacks like smith did a few times then you are way off. Don't believe me go look for yourself.

??????????? i even threw the first 2 seasons out for he and smith. we are also talking a 1st rd. pick to a 4th rd. pick. smith 99 tackles 13.5 sacks in those two seasons and ziggy 73 tackles and 4.5 sacks. not that close at all.

I dont see Ziggy being a NT at all....I like McClendon there alot and I think he will eventually replace Casey - possibly as soon as this upcoming season.

And this was ziggys first full year as a starter. Smith is one of the best de to ever play. That still doesn't change the fact that him and the beard being pretty close to each other and everybody considers him to be very good.

keisel was a 7th rd. pick. as far as this being ziggy's first full season, yes but he's started alot of games the last 3 years. smith made 6 last year and not many the year before, so he's hardly brand new at it. i don't dislike ziggy and it looks like the transformation helped. he had his best year, but still not smith level.

I personally am still on the fence about Ziggy. In my opinion it is our scheme that is holding our guys back. As everyone already knows the job of our D line is to take on blocks to allow our LBs to make plays. The problem is our LBs aren't the same as they used to be whether because of age, injury or just lack of talent(Foote). It's pretty hard to stand out or make splash plays when you are inviting guys to come and block you. I know it's the whole philosophy of our defense but sometimes I wish Lebeau would just let our guys play ball. I really think Casey is he only one left that fits that mold and all our other guys talent and athletic ability are being wasted. I think Casey is so impressive when he gets "mad" because he says screw this scheme crap,I'm gonna make a play.
