Only what they have done with the steelers matter too,so it don't matter what player like Woodson did with others teams, etc

Ben, he holds all the Steelers passing records, and won two Super Bowls.

Rod Woodson.... followed by TJ Watt and then Troy Polamalu. Sorry.... but Roethlisberger's 2nd half of his career was less than stellar and in my view... a disappointment.

Ben had opportunities to match Brady and failed.

I'm going with Troy, barely above Woodson. I'd also revise your options by taking out Ward and Harrison and replace them with Dawson and The Bus. This is by no means putting down Ward or Harrison, it's just that we've had so many great ones over this span.

    Troy for me.

During the years 2005-2010, those Steelers teams were both won and lost by Troy. Pittsburgh won far more games with him than without. A true prodigy; like few the game has ever and will ever see.

Best Steeler or best Steelers?? If only 1 it has to be Ben R. No Ben R. we stuck at 4.

It really is a toss-up between Woodson and Polamalu. The book has yet to be written and completed on TJ Watt... who could possibly rank with Mean Joe Greene when it's all said and done.

One challenge in comparing Woodson and Polamalu is their roles were so different. Safeties often have more opportunities to make big plays and this was even more true for Polamalu, who was given a great deal of leeway to freelance.

The other big difference is team success, but Polamalu played on better teams. He played all but one season of his career with a Hall of Fame quarterback. Woodson didn't play with one at all during his time in Pittsburgh.

Franco and Harrison had the two biggest splash plays for the Steelers ever. I like splash plays. Their careers weren't too shabby either. On the other hand Troy's entire career was one continuous splash play. So there's that. :hmm:

Unfortunately, with Polamalu, there were plenty of splash plays for the other team, too. He usually got it right when he freelanced, but when he got it wrong, very bad things usually happened.

As I recall, that seemed to happen to Woodson as well. Both got burned from time to time due to their aggressiveness. In spite of those moments, I think we'd take both of them all over again.

For me it’s Ben. Without him we don’t win two Superbowls.

So would I. These are all wonderful players. I'd be thrilled to have someone like any of them on the current team.

    Agreed.

Both are just about one and the same in terms of importance, impact and legacy as far as I see it. The major thing that irritates me is that people place Troy so much so on a higher pedestal than Rod because Rod did what was in the best interest for him by going to the best possible situation to win a Lombardi. That aspect alone should be irrelevant; the teams such players play for doubly so.

Rod leaving doesn't bother me nor did Harrison leaving. They were awesome when it counted wearing Black and Gold. :dancing:

2011-2021. Actually, most of Roethlisberger's PLAYOFF career was disappointing and underachieving. From XLV onward. He was good during the regular season in those years,

2004-2010 was fun while it lasted.

Too bad Ben was burdened by Tomlin and "his" team in the 2nd half... it was very disappointing indeed.

He was not the best player for the Steelers in the last 40 years. Voting just didn't go as You thought, and We actually watched them play.

The Steelers wanted to keep Woodson and have move to safety IIRC, he was terrible at CB with the 49ers, ended his career playing mostly safety.
