they say its weak but i think its just because there isnt a top 5 back. i think its ok. we can find one if we want one. i am not opposed to mendy coming back but i thought he wanted a big deal?

I just read an article on NFL.COM that was talking about how Mr. Rooney seemed really irritated at Mendy and they project on there that he will not be back here next year. Mr. Rooney did seem to have high expectations for him though.

I can't see him coming back. Rooney and Tomlin both seem pretty irritated with him and I think they'll cut bait.

I don't see any way that he comes back. He'll look for a short term "prove yourself" deal and then try to cash in once before he's all but out of the league.

i don't dislike mendy. i think they forced him back earlier then he should have but nobody was stepping up.

i think they forced DD back to early too, and i hope he doesn't have a setback because of it. DD hurt that knee two plays in a row before he came out.

i think with a more mobile line that we will see next year that we can do alot more with our backs and mendy would be fine in it. how much they pay him will be the deciding factor i would think. i still think we get one out of this draft too. i think either dwyer or redman is let go or at least not brought back.

I don't think he is in a position to demand a big deal, with the injury and season he had.

Arians will take him as soon as he gets on the waiver wire, the cards are going to part company with Beany Wells who hasnt played a full half of a season due to injury since they drafted him 4 years ago, and no, I wouldnt want wells to come here if they do release him...

I actually saw an article on NFL.COM that said Wells was glad they got BA because he thought he would get a new chance with him. I still wouldn't be surprised if they took Mendy though. I actually figured him and Wallace would wind up with BA.

You sign him if you can. I don't think he's burned the Rooney bridge yet. I think Rooney will be talking to him and getting a sense of his attitude and commitment for what's left of their collective future, if any. In short, they'll vet him, see if head and heart are in it. If not, we've all seen this time and time again, they'll let him go with a thank you and best wishes.

My hope? The relationship can be salvaged and Mendy comes back to have one of his best NFL years.

Mendy is a very good back. Even though alot of guys here on the board hate him, he is a legit #1 RB. If he were in an offense like Baltimore and used the way they use Rice, he would have at least as good of numbers and an impact and if Rice were with us, he would have been less successful than Mendy.

Exactly. You look at the salary cap, and if you can afford him, you sign him. Talent-wise it's a no brainer, because without him we don't have a #1 back, and assuming a mid-round rookie can be a true #1 and more than a role player is a bit of a stretch. It's possible, but not likely. And what has he done to burn bridges? An unpopular political tweet years ago? Not show up for a game he wasn't allowed to play in? Those things aren't helping his cause, but to let them determine who is on your team (and who is your starting running back) seems a little crazy to me. He's not a locker room problem, he's not a media circus. Those are super small potato off-field problems. He can run, catch, and block. He's the only back we've had since (?) to be a threat to both break tackles and outrun defenders. We are significantly better when he's on the field.

Unfortunately, I'm sure another team will recognize that his talent exceeds his production with us and will get him at a bargain (but still too high for us) price.

I honestly think Tomlin just does not like him. For whatever reason he just doesn't like the guy. I don't see him being here next year.

I think that Mendenhall has certainly got Top 10-15 RB talent. However, talent alone does't make a player great. I don't think that he has put forth a consistent effort for the team, and that's why the coaching staff is not high on him. The player that we saw in that AFCCG against the Jets was pretty awesome, but where was that guy during the majority of our regular season games the past few years? To say that it's all on the O-line or play calling is BS. The RB and his blocking work in tandem, and there are plenty of guys in the league who have less raw power than Mendy who have run better with similar, or worse, blocking in front of them. To compare him to Ray Rice and say that he is in any way a better player makes no sense. Rice is a guy who plays every play like it's his last. Mendy is a guy who decides which plays to play and which plays to avoid taking hits. Mendy has more raw talent, but Rice is twice the player because of what's inside driving him. It's really a shame because the raw talent is there.

I have always been against taking a RB in the 1st round. In 2008 I warmed up to the idea of getting Mendy where we did because he was a projected Top 12 pick. The inconsistent play over the past few years has definitely put me back in the NEVER take a RB in R1 camp.

There's no doubt in my mind they will bring him back if they can afford him. They have too many holes to fill via the draft alone. He was a 1,000+ yard a season back on a pass first team with an abysmal offensive line. Give him a decent offensive line and 25 carries a game as a opposed to the 15 he was getting and watch what happens. It also doesn't help that a draft pick, especially a mid to late rounder has a far better chance of going bust than excelling. We've got a very good back in Mendy the Steelers should put every effort into keeping him.

I'd love to see Mendy back if he's going to play like he did in 2010-11. If Tomlin is going to ride his ass all season again and we are going to have the circus distraction then no thanks.

I think you're 100 percent right. Seems as if Tomlin has it in for him, at least that's the way I see it.

    From the PG:

“For NFL teams to get a true evaluation of Rashard, they have to look at the 2011 tape,” McCartney said. “In 2012, he wasn’t quite all there.”

Personally, I think that is the problem all along. Mendenhall just isn't quite all there. He has the physical ability, just not the mental capacity. You can't fix stupid.

Wells is in his 5th contract year, I only see him coming back to the cards if he is willing to take a low ball contract offer, not sure his very limited production over the last 4 years has the cards front office excited over resigning him for another 5 years.....
