Last time the steelers trade up in the first round with the broncos was back in 2019 for Devin Bush,so I hope it will not be the case and this is just a smoke screen....

I would love Mitchell as he is the best CB in the draft.

I could also see this move for Fuaga. They need to get in front of Cincinnati if they want their pick at RT.

I would love Mitchell but I’m not sure I want to pay the price to move up to get him. We would have to give up our second round and possibly a third next year. If we didn’t have so many darn holes I would be more in favor of this. I guess if they do it then you can forget about Tackle and Center in this draft accept for late round flyers. They would probably sign Connor Williams and Bechton to fill out the line in FA. That still leaves WR as a gaping hole.

It's pretty much a straight up 20 and 52 for 12, although we should be able to squeeze one of their fifth rounders out of them. That said, I don't make the trade. We upgrade our o-line with a first or second rounder, or nothing else we do will make a difference.

You give up a chance at a top center, tackle prospect for a corner that may or may not start until halfway through the season. That's a big price to pay.

Khan has to be going through withdrawal symptoms by now, so he probably will make a trade like that, LOL.

It would certainly be the dumbest thing they've done since that Bush disaster.

I will believe it when Schefter or Rapoport report on it, but Mitchell would be a good get.

I thought of those two as well. Friermuth is going to be a wasted asset in the new offense and he is on his last year of his contract.

I don't like this idea. Mitchell has shown impressive speed and measurables that helped launch him to the head of this year's CB class, but is still from a Group of Five conference. Not the end of the world, but you're already dealing one of the riskiest positions to draft in the first round. And on that bet you'd be wagering the draft capital of the #12 and #20 overall picks, surrendering a selection from the second round of this year's class in the process, which IMO has some quality talent at positions of need for the team.

Plus, even if both JPJ and Mitchell fulfill their potential you're stuck with some salary cap issues if you want to retain both. A quality CB1 currently receives a second contract with an AAV in the range of $19M.

This type of move makes more sense for a team that's already set on offense (and for the most part the front seven on defense) and is looking to fix a leaky secondary with some top-flight guys while on rookie contracts. The Steelers have the leaky secondary, but have other needs that need tending to as well.

Good points. I agreed with all except that it might be a problem having both CBs fulfill their potential causing salary cap issues.
This comes up every so often so allow me to re-state the explanation to that:
Having multiple players reaching full talent potential is a good problem to have.
A drafted player doing well is what you draft them for. Drafting a player, hoping he doesn't do well so you don't have to pay him, doesn't make sense.

But again, back to your points, I fully agree on your other points that there is value in the second round of the draft, and that trading up for one all-or-nothing gamble is risky, and there are many other areas of need this year. Good post.

I love Mekhi Becton as our RT next year. Just like Kevin Dotson they moved him to the Left side and he failed. Like Dotson he looked like a Pro Bowler his rookie year playing on the Right Side.

As far as Williams, I think they are still asking for prayers from his fans that he will be able to recover from his injury and walk again. Even his agent Drew Rosenhaus has stated that he is not ready to even begin interviewing with teams yet.

Connor Williams' knee injury could end his career and why the Dolphins may have moved on (phinphanatic.com)

When Connor Williams went down late last year against the Titans, Miami Dolphins fans knew it would end his season. It might end his career.

Williams' agent, Drew Rosenhaus has said on several occasions that his client would not likely sign with a team early in free agency.

According to Rosenhaus, who termed the injury as "pretty significant", is more concentrated on his medical health than signing with a new team. This is one of those horrible parts of the NFL.

I like the player but not the price we would have to pay. We need a WR either a C or T and CB/S help in the first 3 rounds. We have the worst WR room in the NFL currently.

Sounds like a stretch. The Steelers met with Mitchell at the Senior Bowl, and Dan Colbert was reported as the only Steelers rep at Toledo’s pro day (Mitchell didn’t work out). It would surprise me if they invested a 1st and a 2nd in a guy that they didn’t spend more time getting to know with a Top 30 visit.

I rallied for Conners but yes, I got the info a few weeks ago that he probably won't play this season at least and possibly his career is over.
    Disappointing.

As for the trade, if one is going to give up two good picks then this player better be an impact player.
    I don't like it.

Sure, but this is what happens with good/great players anyway, it's not like a team has a financia lCB pool and a OT pool, at some if your roster is good enough there will be casualties, that doesn't mean you don't draft a CB with huge potential. Primo positional players demand primo money, it's the same for every team in the league.

Not saying we should or should not draft Mitchell, just saying a potential superstar contrract in 5 years should not be a barrier to drafting any player, if anything, having too many guys and you can't sign them all probably means you're doing a lot right and winning a ton of games.

A good organisation navigates it's way around having to pay/trade/let go to FA players that become expensive.

I probably wouldn't make this trade based on need, but I would not let the idea that one day he might be worth a fortune put me off at all.

They must like one of the late round Centers then.

Tight ends play a big role in Arthur Smith's offense, so I'm not sure that is true at all.

Such an eventuality salary cap wise would not take place for about 4 yrs .... Mitchell and JPJ would both be on rookie contracts, with the salary cap rising every season ... if you have the chance to create a no fly zone, you take it.... my only concern with this would be prioritizing team needs between cb and o-line

Yes but a specific type do. He likes his TE's to block. Friermuth is not a good blocker. I know ATL had Pitts but honestly he was more a WR for them. In addition Wilson doesn’t throw to the TE alot. I hope im wrong because I like Friermuth but i was definitely disappointed with him last year. Much of it wasn’t his fault but the blocking part was for sure.

To me this is like the guy that lives in a very average Townhome with a Porsche 911 Turbo outside. Upgrade your living standards first before buying the nice car. We have too many (basic) needs to be shopping for Louis Vuittons.
