No of those were a first round pick by the steelers....The steelers had not a lot of option during this time

Cowher had a voice in how the team spent its resources, especially after he won his power struggle with Tom Donahoe, so Cowher bears some responsibility for that lack of options.

That said, how the heck did we get to this from Mr. Rub-and-Tug's comments about the current defense to Cowher's choices at quarterback?

They choked because they handled Denver in the regular season that year, they were playing at home with a good defense and running game, the year before the expansion Jacksonville beat Denver in the playoffs.

It doesn't matter if they were first round picks, it's still part of the QB evaluation process, thinking you could win with those scrubs is foolish.

Please, yes the Jaguars had a huge upset in 1996,one of the biggest in NFL history but overall from 1996 to 1998,the Broncos were 46-10 including the playoffs(39-9 in the regular season and 7-1 in the playoffs)...One of the best record in a 3 year span in NFL history. It was such a underrated great team in NFL history. In 1997 the Broncos were first on offense and 5 or 6 on defense in PPG

Still the Steelers only lost by 3 points despite Kordell's pathetic performance....If he would have been just average, it would have been a win for the Steelers. And it's funny you also blame our defense for this loss, since they didn't give any points in the second half and the broncos were an offense with almost 30 PPG with 3 HOF players at least with Sharpe, Elway and Davis and a of the best offensive mind of all-time in Mike Shanahan, so of course they will make plays too. They had also a great o-line

What the Broncos did the previous season is irrelevant.

So what does that say about a QB who does poorly against a "limited" defense. Sounds like he trashed himself.

Denver had the ball at the end of the game and the Steelers couldn't stop them from getting a first down to end the game IIRC.

I agree, but as bad were all the stories that he did not even want to draft Ben when that presented.

We had a graveyard of QB's in the 80's, took O'Donnell with the 70 pick in 1990.

But Cowher did pass on Brady......

I liked BC for many reasons, and at the same time, was glad to see him go, for many reasons.

The steelers loss to the chargers was bad but nowhere nearly humiliating as Tomlin clownshow against the patriots. We looked like a Freshmen football team playing a varsity team. I tapped out on MT right then. No way he can coach against elite coaches and he was clowned by KC every single time he has played Mahomes.

They lost the AFC Championship game at home against an inferior opponent. It was plenty embarrassing.

Denver was the better team that year. Yes, we beat them Reg Season, but DEN was the better team and proved it when it counted.

the WORST. The beginning of my DOUBTS about Cowher. It set the wedge and it grew over time. After the NE AFCCG loss in 2001, I was done with Cowher. He had reached his zenith and showed that better coaching would beat his physicality all the time. and that was after the Kent Graham debacle.

Heck - he almost choked it the following Yr. vs. a FAR INFERIOR Colts Harbaugh team!

I remember a team from the 70's that was very simple in their base D. They ran out the same guys in the same positions all afternoon. They rarely substituted and didn t try and fool anyone.

All they had going for them was they were better than anyone else. That was maybe the simplest team defense ever. But it's almost impossible now to draft that well get a few breaks , be ahead of the curve with the smaller black colleges.

But it was a pleasure to watch. No GIMICKS just line up and play and our 11 are better than your 11.
