The days of winning a championship with a average qb and amazing defense are over. Even San Francisco who played great for the first half of the super bowl on d and has great talent on d got destroyed by KC the last 4 drives and was pushed around all day by Detroit. The best a team can hope for is to get a few timely stops on d and let your team score. MT is not aware of this change in the league and was clowned by Belichick in the last AFC champ game and it was the moment I was out on him ever winning anything for us in the future. He should have been fired the day after that game. It was the Steelers Grady Little moment. You know, the RED Sox manager who left Pedro in forever and cost the sox their first title in a million years. The management knew after that moment that he would was not fit or qualified to take the next step to win a title. Unfortunately, the Steelers love hearing how they don't fire coaches and we are stuck in purgatory for one more year at least. Going 9-8 or 8-8 is not the standard. Not winning a playoff game in years is not the standard. Judging by Vegas win total projection, we will be 9-8 again and if we make playoffs, will get bounce by double digits again. One more year until we start rebuild and new regime.

Good try but Ben has never cost a playoff game as it was the case for Kordell in 1997 and 2001 and O'Donnell in 1995 outside of the game against the Browns in 2020

Still the Cowher great defense had still not given 30 points in those games.Tomlin would have given over 50 points to the cowboys in 1995 with the same O'Donnell game

I guess you missed the playoff games vs. Jags in '17 and Browns in '20.

I mentioned the game against the Browns...Against the Jaguars, the Steelers defense was awful, so bad that Ben had to attempt 58 passes against the number 1 pass defense.....Not a recipe for winning in the playoffs!

Ben had 2 turnovers in that game but he also had some big play

If I remember correctly, both turnovers were early as the Jaguars built a 28-7 leads, which is why the Steelers had to throw so much. Jacksonville's fourth touchdown was a return of a fumble by Roethlisberger. He was also the beneficiary of some spectacular plays by his receivers.

Roethlisberger did a lot right getting the Steelers back in that game, but he also helped put them in the hole in the first place.

First drive on offense, the Steelers threw like 3 sceen pass and they punted and after that, in the second drive, the Steelers ran twice in the first 2 down and they were on 3rd down and 11 after that it was a interception by Ben...3rd drive, they were stopped on fourth down in 1 on a very questionable call by Haley...Very hard to have a fast start with a conservative gameplan like that on offense

The defense gave up 3 TDs in their first 4 drives and two of those were their fault...Remember, the Jaguars had scored only 10 points on offense in each of their 2 previous games

So that AFC Championship against the Chargers.....in which we led in the 1st half had nothing to do with our Defense failing???? The people I threw out of My place after that game would say differently. Just admit it. Both Coaches have had failures, and bright points. If You coach long enough this will happen.

I wouldn't say it had nothing to do with the defense, but they only gave up 17 points. Most of that was two big plays. The offense had its failures that day, too.

Cowher had no clue when it comes to the QB position, Kordell was never a consistent enough passer to be a starter, he should've stayed in the Slash role.

That Ben interception hurt because Jacksonville got the ball near the Steelers 20 yard line IIRC, that made it easy for Jacksonville to jump out early on them, after Ben's fumble it was 28-7 then he finally got going.

It's still crazy to think that Ben vs Jaguars had been awful like Kordell had been in his 2 AFC title games or Neil O'Donnell in his super bowl when he gave the super bowl to the cowboys even if the steelers had completely dominated the cowboys in the second half

Still much better at evaluating QBs than Tomlin....If Kordell would have had the similar performance in the AFC title game in 1997 that he had in the regular season against his same Broncos, he would have been a Steelers legend, but unfortunately he had an atrocious performance

The Jaguars offense were still 5 on 5 in the red zone on offense and they had 17 points in the fourth quarter. They had only 10 points on offense in each of their previous game.... The Pats were often able to win in the times Brady had multiple turnovers...Even Bruce Arians was able to win one against the Packers in 2020 despite 3 Brady interceptions in the second half because his defense was able to step up up....Impossible for the current steelers defense

If Cowher was good at evaluating QBs he would've never made Kordell the starter.

Everybody knew that 2017 defense wasn't good and it got worse after Shazier got injured, I don't know why you were expecting them to be good in the playoffs that season.

They weren't bad with Shazier, but they fell apart without him. They relied too heavily on his skill set and they had nobody worth a damn behind him.

Too bad they choked at home once again in the AFCCG , that Cowher defense that you like to brag about so much couldn't get a stop at the end of the game IIRC.

Yes, but injuries slowed him and he didn't produce all that much for them. That was always the issue. He only had two big seasons in his career. Injuries derailed him the rest of the time.
