There are many players on our practice squad that we need to find out if they can play, You would think the coaches could tell who can play or not.
Player development is/has been lacking for a long time in this organization. This must change when you have 4-5 players taking up
the majority of the salary cap number.

Didn't they say that about the Baltimore starting center who was picked in the first round,
who barring injury will be a plug and play player for 8-10 years. Linderbaum I believe is his name?

Just a note for those Doom and Gloom Fire Tomlin and Khan/Burn the whole thing down types-
We do not have a hole at RT. We did not release our RT. We released a 2nd stringer who never left the bench and complained. So now we're down to C and WR. Manageable.
On the other hand, we filled a hole at LB. We filled a hole at CB. We filled a hole at Safety. We re-built our QB room.

I don’t think we have a nickel on the roster yet. It’s a critical role with sub packages being played more than half the time vs. many teams.

I don't disagree. There will be a number of good nickel corners available in the third round. Currently, Darius Rush is our nickel cb (I can't jinx him by calling him a nickel back), although I think he'll be stronger on the outside. I really don't think we go CB in the first or second because we traded for Jackson and have to see what we have in Rush and Trice.

Plus Frazier has huge 11" hands. That's more important for a center than if he played OT. If he was a LT with 32" arms then that would be a problem but not so much at center.

Linderbaum's wrestling background really helped him deal with the shorter arms. When he came to Iowa, he was a defensive lineman until Ferentz switched him to center.

I agree that we’re potentially OK at outside corner. I say potentially because we just don’t know about Trice, and last year Rush didn’t look NFL ready (and played only 38 coverage snaps). We may be able to get a nickel in the 3rd. The nickel that I really want is Sainristil, but I expect him to go before our 2nd round pick. I’ve done dozens of mock drafts online, and the 3 positions that almost always get depleted between our 2nd and 3rd picks are nickel, T, and WR.

I like the way you put this, while Omar has been more active in FA these last 2 years, that alone cannot or will not fill all the needs. They met with Morse, possibly made an offer, in the end he decided to sign with someone else. Can't recall if they met with any other C, or made calls about availability, but evidently felt the cost was to high (for that and other positions). In recent years some teams have spent enormous sums trying to get a quick fix, can;t recall it working well. I do have reservations drafting a C that immediately has to start simply because he may not be ready, but several guys who should be available all seem to have the experience and ability, which Green did not have after they passed on Creed.

WR is less concerning, some sucessful rooks in recent years have been drafted in rounds 3 or beyond, the talent pool is that deep. Because of that there may well be quatity vets still available after the draft still looking for work.

I would still try to get Tyler Boyd in here.

He ain't a #2, but if someone goes down for a few games he can give you snaps there.

Ferentz is from Western Pa, those Hawkeyes have good HC. Frazier center from WVU
was also A 3 time wrestling champ in his native WV.

Yeah Frazier was 159-2 in his HS wrestling career. He won the state heavyweight title as a freshman, he was 14 and beating 18 year olds on his way to the title.

Hot off Youtube. Top 20 remaining free agents, and the Steelers land one.
Not the WR or RT I wanted.

Morse signed with the Jags for a reasonable amount, so the Steelers didn't make much of an effort. Their bargain-hunting has left them with some serious problems.
