Regarding #1, they thought he could get better, but they have more faith in Wilson and Fields. The former is 35 and the latter is a turnover prone, holds the ball too long, and hasn't shown the ability to read defenses three years into his career.

Maybe they were right, or maybe they got caught up in Wilsons' resume and Fields' physical tools and these moves will be a disaster. They also created a gaping hole at receiver by trading Johnson and they have no center because they failed to spend on the many options who were available. Right now, the offense is worse than it was before the offseason moves.

I understand your false interpretation just fine. I just know it doesn't fit the available facts, including statements from teammates.

 

Actually, we don't know when that happened. It may have been after he was told Wilson was getting the first shot at the job, which indicated that Pickett wasn't going to get much of a chance to compete for it. It may have been knowing that they were still in on Fields, too, which would tell him that the Steelers had chosen to move on from him. You want the scapegoat, so you are making things up to fit that narrative.
