Rattler is going to have a better career in nfl than Caleb… cause the Cleveland Bears will ruin yet another qb

Sorta like Steelers failed KFP… excuses excuses. Did his coaches make him throw ints and fumble constantly? Or was it his teammates fault? Just curious

I mean, both these guys played on pretty bad teams.

Just like Rattler had a better college career than Caleb :lolol:, Oklahoma fans were calling Caleb's name because they wanted Rattler benched.

Unless Wilson plays horribly, I expect him to play the first 10 games. If they switch to Fields at that point, they hold onto their 4th round pick. If we get ahead Fields should definitely see playing time in order to groom him in the future.

If salary cap keeps increasing, Steelers should be able to pay 2 QBs.

The Steelers have a lot of decision on the horizon.
    My questions:
    - Wilson is 35. His window is probably 1-4 years max. Ideally, you'd like to get 2-years out of him before he starts to become a liability.
    - Will Justin Fields settle for sitting 2 years?
    - What kind of contracts do you try to work with these two?
    - If you rent Wilson for a year, they need to evaluate Fields' progress.

Should Fields catch on, you've solved the QB spot for 10 years. That would be best case.
Wilson should be seeing the end of his career on the horizon, even if he has a great year. I'm not sure he has any intentions of being a backup.

As for starting, there's no question that Wilson opens camp in the #1 spot. That was the agreement.
The Coach's job is to watch and monitor both. If Fields is playing the best, you have to put the best man on the field.
Personally, I can't see Fields winning this type of competition. He has to improve on decisions and get this offense down.
Wilson, the vet experience kicks in, it's more of a question of his abilities.

Fields has fumbled the ball 38 times in only three seasons. He led the league with 16 in 2022, though he did cut it to 10 in 2023.

I think Wilson has to start, no question. But they should plan on mixing it up some on occasion to get Justin Fields some real on-field reps with this system.

I have no great confidence, except the QB room (on paper) is better that last year. When Dulac was on Dan Patrick yesterday he said they want to extend Russ. I have no idea how he would know or if it is along the line, extend after he plays this year. Either way I'm skeptical, it's one thing extending a guy with a contract like Baker got, which you can get out of after a year, quite another extending a guy who is 36 (plus) and says he wants to play 7 more years. We did that with Ben and it was a disaster, hope we learned something.

He's 35, won't be 36 until November. The Falcons just gave a 35 year old coming off a serious, season ending injury a 4 year $160 million contract. I don't believe Wilson will ask for that. And we've seen a number of high level qbs play into their 40s.

I’ve wondered about this myself, the low salary makes it easy to move on from him.

Same can be said for Fields but given the age difference I think they will give Fields a longer rope.

The only reason to move on from Wilson is if he doesn’t handle it well if he doesn’t start. Otherwise you keep him as a backup.

Wasn't there a story out there that they would have taken Fields in the draft if he avaiable?

    Talk about disasters.
I would agree though, his contract makes it easy to pull the plug but they damn well better have plan B ready.
I know I am banking on Wilson playing 'solid, not great but solid.'
But if he starts off like Mitch... I'd pull the plug right away.

If you have watched Russ the last few years and think he’s playing into his 40s I got some Ice for you to buy in Alaska. We will be lucky to get a decent year from him.

I've written a lot regarding my reservations about Cousins. I think the contract he got was insane. That said, at least he was still playing as well as he ever had before he got hurt in 2023. You can't say that about Wilson.

Fields was awesome in college and then was thrust into a horrible situation up in Chi Town. Even worse than how our offense was handled over the past two seasons.
I have confidence that he can run our offense with the weapons he will have and after watching Russell a bit. I think these two guys will compliment each other and both will have better success than with their previous disastrous offenses. I remember being very skeptical about Trubisky. I don’t feel that way this time with Fields.
