I now tomlin already said russ is the starter. But things change in the NFL. I like russ he is a man of the people.but I think Russ will be on a short leash.in there last 20 games Jackson vs fields. There numbers are almost identical! I love Russ but I would start fields.

Russell Wilson is the better QB at this point. His experience will allow him to learn the offense faster than Fields. With that said, Fields could be our best backup since the Batch and Leftwich days.

Russ starts the season barring something totally unexpected.

And welcome to the board where trivial debates rage for months! :lolol:

I agree Russ is the more polished quarterback. I just hope they put fields in some of the play packages.

I'm sure Fields will see some action early and often. He's too good of a weapon not to use.

Wilson. Fields has said he tries to play like Wilson so they are probably planning on Fields sitting and learning behind Wilson for a year.

He might find himself taking over some point during the season if Wilson is struggling.

No, they aren't almost identical. If it is the graphic I saw on another thread, Fields had six more interceptions and a full yard less in average per attempt, which is a huge difference.

Rich Eisen just went off, saying Steelers, well MT said Wilson is the starter, Fields the backup no competition. In fact sources said MT told Wilson again he was the starter after they picked up Fields.
Than Eisen put up the numbers for RW and JF. Both have the worst winning pct since 2021. JF is #1 Zac Wilson #2 and RW #3.
Both RW and JF are 1 and 2 in getting sacked.
Both RW and JF are 1 and 2 in holding the ball too long.
Eisen commented that others are blaming their former teams. Eisen said we will find out here at Pittsburgh

If they believe JF is the future, like its rumored ..I don't see why they don't let them compete for the starting job

Eisen was quite bewildered with the deal Russ got, deal meaning he is the starter with no competition. Eisen also believes Wilson hasnt been Wilson in over 4 years

Both will be playing week one.
Russ will be the "starter" if you will but both will play and a high chance both will be on the field at the same time.
This has already been discussed in the sports world.

Switching QB’s during games has proven to be not very effective. I doubt they would go that route.

    It’s a new offense

They are going to be fairly basic to begin with why would they possibly think about adding unnecessary confusion

Seriously though, it has been discussed that it could be the route they go.
Sure the experts who are saying this are not saying the team is doing a 50/50 split.

Probably 90/10 initially. A few plays with both on the field too.

Then the players are not fkn pros
It's really not that difficult to design and run a play with that personnel.
    Teams do it.

The Saints have done it for years with Taysom Hill, there's no reason the Steelers can't do the same thing with Fields.
