I don’t believe that’s how the Steelers view him at all. Trading Pickett makes even less sense if they feel Russ is a one year rental.

No, I believe they think Wilson has been misused and they are getting a guy for 2,3 maybe 4 more seasons that can bring them a SB.

This. I felt this way the moment Wilson came to town in a visit. Pickett’s days were numbered at that point. I never for a second bought into the notion that Wilson was coming to “compete” with Pickett.

Tannehill isn’t going anywhere to be QB3.

    It was a competition

Kind of like Roberto Duran and the “No Mas” fight

But we will draft a younger player. 2 old heads and one young learner is not unheard of.

Thank you. He comes in for a 6th or 7th and sits and watches Wilson. A decision would have to be made on a 5th year option without taking a snap. A 22 million possibly more option price.

A pick and fumble machine bringing in a losing record. Disagree all you want. No thanks.

Wilson plays the season and hopefully can get us to a playoff win then they will give him a contract extension.

Tannehill makes sense due to the relationship with Author Smith.

I don't think he has a whole lot of options at this point.

I saw a video analyzing Justin Fields' errors. Oh boy, it wasn't good. It's fixable stuff though. But it looked really bad. He needs to get in a classroom and stay there for a long time. His physical tools will matter little if he doesn't get better at the basic mechanics of playing QB :(

To be fair I have seen his highlights too and they are enticing, but those errors look awful. I am not as convinced anymore :(

I'm not even going to pretend I know what the Steelers are thinking.

If they thought Wilson were more than a 1 year thing than why sign him to a 1 year deal? Unless there was some secret handshake between both camps that they would sign him to a lucrative extension I guess, but if you're Wilson why would you agree to that?

Tannehill isn't a quality backup, he has been bad the last two years, he's also old and can't stay healthy.

They have him for a bargain. Why do anything until it plays out as a they are hoping and if it doesn’t, you move on.

Fans can disagree all they want, but as soon as Pickett was traded the NFL media was saying the Steelers should trade for Fields now.

I am intrigued by Fields because he is only 24 years old, but I watched the RW interview yesterday and he certainly talked liked he is going to be here for years and hopes for 1-2 Super bowls.

That does not sound like a one year rental to me. Not sure how Fields fits here. Maybe Tannehill is too old (not a fan of his, but he fits with Smith)...maybe they bring in Dobbs and draft our QB3.

The Steelers certainly will not even consider fields until after the draft

    That's certain

And then they still should not

But most of us know that

I remember that one. Sugar Ray doing a showboating wind up of his right hand, and then jabbing with the left. Duran’s calling card was toughness, but you never would have known it that night.

That fight went several rounds. This competition was over before the weigh in.

    Great plan

Waste draft picks when we have positions of need

I actually paid money to go see that fight on a big screen in an arena

I thought there was going to be a riot from people wanting their money back

There is no way to speculate at this point. They were in a quandary, Russ was available for nothing and they took that road, where this leads is going to prove interesting. Russ, is he plays well enough in a tough division to even get us a play off win, will not continue to play for the minimum. If they and he see potential to continue, how much will the cost be? That will determine the possible fate for the next 4-7 years. If the compromise is something like TB made with Baker, mid range that allows you to keep important pieces, then it may work. If the price is what Dallas or Atlanta is paying B to B plus QB's, then you mortage your future on an aging QB.

Not saying it cannot work, and the market is the market, getting a QB and being able to stay relevant is hard. You can trade away your future and fail 80% of the time, you can do those trades and find a guy to take you to the SB in the 7th round, that has a higher % of failure.

This year we have an opportunity with some still young and inexpensive pieces with a new OC and what has been an ineffective O for several years. At the price Russ gives them the best chance, this year. Beyond that is a gamble on an aging QB, who may cost you more than it is worth.

Oh the memories. I was in a strip club in Meadville (when I was young, single and thought those places were fantastic), the owner had tickets to see the fight in Erie (close circuit screen), his bartender bailed and he was stuck until someone else came in. I do not know what was more fun, watching the fake boob jiggle, or seeing his fat red face get madder when it was apparent it would never make it to Erie on time. lol
