Sound like another league minimum contract for Mason; with incentives. Be funny if Tannehill comes over from the Titans now to compete for the backup spot.

QB Mason Rudolph, Titans reportedly agree to 1-year deal worth up to $3.62M

I don't think Levis is that strong, MR may have found a home.

The market was not robust where he had a decent chance to start. There were only a handful of teams where there is no franchise Qb that needed a backup. Mason is essentially betting on himself to be able to start, ball out and come back for starter’s money. I am sure he had offer to be Kirk Cousin’s back up too in Atlanta, but then there he would always be a back up.

Once again, try harder to keep up. I never wrote that they didn't try to retain him at all, but they didn't try very hard. That he signed for so little demonstrates how limited their interest was in keeping him. They wanted to retain him, but only at a very low price. As I wrote elsewhere, even I was surprised by how little money Rudolph got. Clearly, the league still doesn't think very much of him. Allowing him to hit free agency doesn't mean they didn't try at all. It means they didn't try very hard. It's not that I try to be misleading, which I don't, or that I put up strawmen, which I don't. It is that your reading skills are very poor, which they are, and that you have trouble understanding, which is clear.

It was also clear that the Steelers stopped trying to keep Rudolph at all, even at a very low price, once they signed Wilson. They took him back on the cheap last year, too. That wasn't about lack of faith in the guys ahead of him. He was simply better than the other third-string options.

Rudolph did more to express his displeasure with being a backup than Pickett. I guess you forgot how he said that he loved his team, then corrected his statement to say he loved his teammates, making it clear he did not feel the same way about the coaches and front office. Pickett didn't say anything like that. He simply said that he didn't learn anything when he didn't play.

I guess I should go easy on you. I'm sure the news that Rudolph is gone has left you crying in your Terrible Towel. We should all be here for you in your hour of grief.

It looks like the market for him to have a chance to compete for the starting job didn't exist. Levis is the starter for the Titans. For all we know, he simply took the most money he could get. There is no evidence that he had an offer from the Falcons. You just made that up.

The Titans are committed to Levis. I'm not sure how strong that commitment is, but it would be a big surprise if he didn't go into the season as a starter. Even Malik Willis might have a better chance to be a long-term starter for the Titans than Rudolph.

That was Wilson sticking it to the Broncos because he was going to get the same amount of money no matter how much the Steelers gave him.

Levi's starter status isn't cemented and he has worse stats than Rudolph. The new coach at Tennessee isn't bound by any old hierarchy and personally saw Rudolph destroy his Cincinnati Bengals in person. If anything, he may prefer Rudolph. Signing a one year contract makes sense for Rudolph as he's betting on himself to win the starting job and come back and negotiate a starting contract. He has more chance of starting than Pickett in Pittsburgh.

This thread didn’t age well. Think Mr Finn was a bit premature, but he’s probably used to that

Keep trying to convince yourself. Also, it's Levis, not Levi, and he was a rookie with a much bigger sample size, not a six-year veteran who had three decent games.

Unless Levis completely implodes he is going to get every chance in the book because of his tremendous potential. His arm strength is elite and in his first start he exploded for 4 TD passes. He's going to have some ups and downs along the way but when he is on Levis can be electrifying.

Exactly. It's funny that Tiggs claims to know so much about the 2023 Dolphins, but he missed how well Levis played against them (after one really stupid rookie mistake early).

Mason was not signed to be a starter.
The QB's are kind of similar, that's why I mentioned earlier Mason is a good fit.
Levis seems to get dinged, so Mason is probably going to play as he is solid in the 2nd spot.

The Titans want to bring in another QB for training camp.
