Well, we'll know one of those answers for sure when the next novella comes out ("She-Wolves of Winterfell"). Unless it has come out already and I'm behind the curve.

I'm not sure if you've gotten to this point in the story or not, but it's not a huge spoiler. Bran has a vision from the perspective of the weirwood tree in Winterfell. Little scenes going back through time. One of Ned's sister, Lyanna. Another one is of "a young woman" kissing an "impossibly tall man." Dunk was over 7 feet tall. Old Nan is old enough to have been a young woman back then. Hodor is her grandson. The speculation on Brienne is a little more complex, and not as likely... but fun nonetheless.

Of course, there are some that even want to tie him to the Cleganes...

There were 5 (6?) Aegons. I'm not sure now. (edit: Verified. Egg is Aegon V, aka "Aegon the Unlikely" who became king after his brother Aemon turned it down) If you remember references to the tragedy of Summerhall, that story (whatever exactly happened there) revolves around Dunk and Egg. But I'm guessing that part will be his last short story.

 

Just thought I'd share a good pre-order deal on the season 2 blu-ray set. My wife just let me know about it.

Yeah, she loves the series. She's an avid reader and burns through books. I'd be halfway through book 3 and she'd be starting book 4. I'm almost done with ADWD, but she's been long done with it.

GRRM hinted at a new "cast member" for season 3 today.

It's Bart the Bear Jr. I'm sure you know what they'll use him for. Should be a great scene.
