Those huge contracts are hard to play up to. More often than not, they put a target on you.
I'm disappointed they didn't come out with a Center, since there were quite a few.
Connor Williams is out there (26) and maybe a decent signing.
I would look at a 2-3 year deal as ultimately, it would be nice to draft a future starter.
    Estimated Value: 5 yrs, $67,676,377, Avg. Salary: $13,535,275 - which isn't awful.
My angle is mostly to put less pressure on the draft, forcing to draft for need.

Beat me to it. I was going to say the same thing. Of course they did go get a QB which is mostly unheard of from the Colbert era

I'm having a hard time with the war room decision of -
    "You know what?"
    "What"
"We need a punter that looks like Bill Burr, that is the one thing we really need."
"I think you're on to something."
"Yeah, it's the one thing that stands out the most in this Free Agency"
"And you need to pay him a lot"

Most kickers are signed around midnight... and usually around the end of Free Agency. Well, that's the way it should be.

he is the highest paid punter in the league, as of today, 3/12, at 9:57a. He will be 'right in there' with the other 4-5 top guys once all the contracts are put in place, come OPENING DAY in September. new contracts will be written in FA in the upcoming weeks. When you sign a top 5 guy at his position, you will pay a top 5 price. there are several guys that are younger than him. they may get MORE $$

Please please understand SALARY CAP spending increases yr after yr after yr. The Cap went up significantly for 2024. this is one of (if not the first) contract redone in 2024

    just calm down everyone.....

come on man, some of you must be 24 - thinking a 32 yr old is OLD in the NFL, as a P.

many punters still excel well into their 30's

is it a contract for a few years.

    good grief.

    grow up.

kiss my azz. i'm 65 years old dude. so in a couple of years we have to do this all over again. how long have we been trying to find a punter? we have drafted failure after failure, brought in guys we should have kept but our hard headed coach can't be wrong about his guy and keeps them far too long. incaase you haven't looked we have a lot of holes to fill on this team. we don't have unlimited resources to do it with.

I hear the hang time argument, but wonder about his avg. If hang-time was such an issue, wouldn’t his average be much worse?

The difference between 28th and 12th was another 1 second (according to the article).

Not to split hairs, but the article you posted said he is the 4th highest paid punter :smiley1:

depends how fast your gunners get down the field. he averaged 5.1 yards per return. harvin 4.3 per return. for their career. should that make him the highest paid punter? that 1 second could make a huge difference in the return game for coverage. remember we are without boykin and killebrew as of now. ST's can swing a game quickly.

It's not really too difficult to understand that overpaying for a punter is not necessarily the answer especially when there is no current center on this team despite the many other holes to fill and finite cap space.

He has made millions punting a football and just signed for 9 million more. Despite his looks I would guarantee that he has a smoke show wife making that kind of dough.
Harvin had a low return average against him because he either shanked it out of bounds or kicked it straight up in the air for a 30 yard fair catch.
