So much discussion, Fields? Tannehill? Rudolf? Pickett? Wilson? FA? Draft?

If you were GM what do you do? Cousins is out due to price tag. So is mayfield.

Assemble your QB room that fits our cap space…( which will increase with more manipulation/adjustments ) .

Pickett, Rudolph... draft a QB in the 4th or 5th round. If it doesn't work out, draft a QB in 2025, first round.

You draft a QB, and you give him his window, which is the length of the contract, 3-4 years for rookies. It's a contract business.
We fkd up, we drafted Rudolph and did not give him his window.
Now we have Kenny, and he needs to finish his window. It's his year 3 and we shall see.
And if this window fails, we will do it again with a new QB.

Pickett. Rudolph or Tannehill. Minshew would also work. If they don't draft one late they will find a #3 and a camp arm.

Enough of the Fields, Wilson talk. Not going to happen.

They need to see what their 3rd year QB can do with a new system. And they are not going to give up on him. Yet.

Like Heinz said if he doesn't turn it up a notch and elevate his game it's a 2025 1st round pick.

If I were the Steelers GM, I would start a true rebuilding... Enough of staying stuck in the middle

    Resign Rudolph
    Trade Pickett
And draft a rookie no later than 2nd round.

If I am the GM, I probably give Fields a try. If the price is untenable, I resign Rudolph, make him the starter and see what happens. Rudolph might be a decent year or two option and we can look to the draft again. I don't force a first round QB just because we need one. It has to be a player we REALLY like. I think the 2024 class is better than the 2025 class, but that tends to change quickly.

If the goal is to try and win as many games as possible this year then I would sign Russell Wilson for next to nothing and have KP sit behind him. Last year Wilson threw 26 TD's, only 8 picks and over 3,000 yards. That was without the team around that he would have here in Pittsburgh. Would it hurt KP's development? Maybe but who cares, the bottom line is to try and win. Russell Wilson would lead the Steelers to a better season than KP would and for a bargain basement price.

Russell Wilson was worse that his numbers last year...way worse

    ........

some wild marks from Russell Wilson last year

he threw 27% of his passes behind the line of scrimmage

#1 highest out of 509 QBs since 2005

he threw 62% of his passes within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage

#2 highest out of 509 QBs since 2005

Sean Payton had no confidence in Wilson's intermediate passing

the 2023 Broncos had the least amount of intermediate passing of any offense since 2005

Wilson threw just 26% of his passes between 5-15 yards downfield

#1 lowest out of 509 QBs since 2005

it was nothing but record breaking rates of underneath passes and the occasional moon ball downfield

*509 QBs in sample with a min 300 att in a season

    context matter!

I hate it but there's a lot of 'insiders' thinking we are trading for Fields.
This is sort of past the 'click bait' level, it's more casual conversation.

I've tried to look back at his play to figure out a way to live with it, but his film is horrible.
I question Ohmar's GM skills should such a trade happen.

That sounds alot like Kenny Pickett's play, minus the TD passes.

First and foremost they aren’t done rebuilding this team yet. There are still alot of holes on both sides of the ball. So with that being said I defiantly don’t give up premier draft capital or spend alot of money on a QB. So to Me Fields is out of the question. I think the Steelers have to honestly answer the question is Pickett the guy for them or not. They couldn’t get a definitive answer to that question last year because Canada clouded that evaluation. SO I am honest and forth right with Rudolph or whoever I bring in ... “KP is going to start because we want to evaluate him but he will be on a short leash”. Chances are Rudolph leaves and we end up with a Ryan Tannehill or Sam Darnold.

In the mean time we finish building out the Oline, Secondary and ILB’s. We go into next year needing to upgrade the Defensive line and if need be the QB. Keep in mind we won’t have Heyward salary on the books next year or Ogunjobi I believe so that will free up space to be aggressive in FA if we have to be.

Out of all the realistic options I thought about Wilson. The problem is he isn’t going to come here to sit behind KP. The Steelers clearly want to see what they have in KP. They have a financial incentive to do so. It is every Franchises dream to have a solid QB under a rookie contract because you can build up the rest of the team at that time. The big thing is the Steelers need to have a capable veteran behind KP in case he falters and it is evident he isn’t the future so that we can remain competitive or Tomlin is really gonna lose the locker room this year and players like Minkah, Watt and GP are going to want to leave if they don’t see us seriously addressing the position in the future.

All I know is that Wilson threw 20 more TD's than KP did and between the two of them Wilson gives us a better chance to win. Now if the Steelers resign Rudolph then maybe I think twice about Russell Wilson. I'm kind of up in the air about Rudolph being the guy in Pittsburgh. Is he the QB we saw the last 3 games of the season or will he revert to the QB that lost his job to Duck Hodges?

That's all I'm saying. If Rudolph goes elsewhere and the choice is Kenny or Russell Wilson for chump change, then I would roll with Wilson. I get what you are saying about Wilson being far past his best days but the Steelers just aren't going to give draft picks or huge sums of cash for another QB. I would take Wilson, have KP as the backup and go with a late round draft pick like Sam Hartman as #3.

Resign Rudolph let he & Pickett fight it out... Spend resources rebuilding line & prepare to draft another 1st rd qb in the next 1-2yrs if it doesn't workout... Rudolph looked like a starting Qb & Pickett could develop behind a decent line... wasting $ on a washed up Qb or Chicago's throw aways seems like a bad idea... That being said,,, you could convince me that cousins would be worth the investment but they don't seem interested in that. .

If Wilson signs Rudolph is odd man out. So now we wait.

Will Wilson roll into Pittsburgh with his entourage and want his own office space, parking spot and personal bathroom? :lolol:

I think Wilson's wife is a Grammy award winning singer. I'm not sure how she'll like eating Primanti Brothers sammiches and fishing for carp off the Mon Wharf.
