Well TJ it’s like this. It’s all a bunch of bias illegitimate nonsense and you are just supposed to carry on like the voting has some sort of merit. Reminds me of another time not very long ago.

I read that some voters did not even have Watt as 1 of their top 3. I don't know how this would not be considered fraud, as they are on purposely leaving what out of the top 3 to drive down his point total.

Really? I can't think of anything.

I mean, it cant be anything political, since I know you know we don't discuss that kind of thing here. And trying to sneak political propaganda into our football discourse would be beneath you. :smiley1:

TJ needs to work on almost getting sacks, instead of actually getting sacks, I mean it worked for Garret with that pass rush win rate BS.

Award is narrative rather than performance driven and doesn’t always go to the best defensive player. I feel for TJ but it’s that simple.

Funny how the article said that the difference between Watt and Garrett was not that much.

Watt beat Garrett in every single category except for forced fumbles. In that category they tied. And then apparently this year they made up a pass rush win rate category to try and justify giving it to Garrett. If you look at the stats for the top three, TJ is the clear winner. Micah should have been second and Myles should have been third.
    .
The problem is that too many people decided mid-season that Garrett was the DPOY. They didn't wait till the end of the season to figure out who they were voting for.

I wish TJ was so concerned about winning a playoff game in his career.

Oops, sorry my blinders fell off my eyes. I’ll put them back in place. Myles Garrett deserves all of TJ’s awards also. He won it fair and square.

And the narrative was what? That a race baiting, lying, violent thug comes back to win the award after he endured such an awful racist attack on the field of play a few years ago?

Sadly, the "clarity" here is analytically based. I.e. Pro Football Focus. I personally prefer SportsInfoSolutions but that is just me. Regardless though, I agree with T.J. Watt minus one aspect.

I personally want more clarity on ALL awards for the NFL. As it stands?! Nothing but a mess.

Example?! Josh Allen loses out to a QB who has less total TDs than him?! WTF?!?!

Narrative was with Garrett all year, the media loves him and wanted him to win. In fairness he was outstanding early on but disappeared in the second half of the season, the media either ignored his lack of production or made excuses about carrying and injury. He was playing injured but I can’t ever recall a player getting that kind of pass before.

Watt had to break the sack record, that was the only way he was winning it last season.

I beleive it was Peter King who stated it was PFF stats that drove him to put TJ 3rd. That alone shows the how fake the media has become, not that PFF has no value, but to take a created stat of QB pressure's, or their version of it, and discard verified stats shows that it was and is all politics.

It wasn’t even pressures that can be somewhat objectively measured (TJ beat him in pressures). It was pass rush win rate. How many snaps did TJ not get a “win” from PFF when he was arm barred around the neck?

Thats one of the things you cant evaluate. Naturally the voters do not watch every play of every game, but double teams, holds, maulings (you get the point), for King to say he moved TJ on his list from 1 to 3 based solely on PFF pass rush win rate??? What the F does that even mean, if indeed it is a metric, in my book it is likely the lowest thing to consider after comparing all the traditional stats.

The other thing that nobody seems to talk about is that Miles Garrett rushes the passer on pretty much every passing down. TJ Watt drops into coverage. So not only does TJ Watt drop into coverage and make plays and interceptions against the pass that Garrett never does. Watt surpasses Garrett in pretty much every measurable statistic while playing a smaller percentage of snaps going after the quarterback.

No matter how people try to break it down to justify Garrett winning the award, there really are no arguments or stats that hold up to scrutiny.

Allen was one of the league leaders in turnovers, I'm sure that hurt him in the voting.
