He was good at guard. Why not move him back there? It's not like he cost us a lot.

Mason Cole blows but we better hope whomever we draft at C can start out of the gate.

That is one way it matters. Those teams may try to trade up if they want a player they think the Steelers would take. One reason the Steelers moved up in the first round last year was knowing that the Jets had a big need at tackle.

Teams may also wait on a guy because they think the rest of the league doesn't like him as much as they do. The Steelers might love Frazier, but think they can get him in the second round, so they go another direction in the first.

Exactly. He would be a really good third-round pick, but he is probably going to go way too early.

I'm not sure the top centers will make it to them in the second round. I'm starting to see mock drafts with Frazier late in the first round, too. The position was a massive need even before they cut Cole. Unless they sign their guy before the draft, I want to see them ensure they get one of those top two guys.

Ryan McCollum and the best option at backup I guess is Spencer Anderson with his 5-6 starts at Center in college. Or maybe Anderson is C1 with McCollum as backup. Not a good feeling.

Put up or shut up. Those are the options. The days of a player surviving another season due to "cap constraints"?!... those days are over.

They will sign a FA center and draft one. Not worried about cutting Cole now at all.

    McCarthy is Kenny Pickett 2.0.

McCarthy never had a college season anywhere close to Pickett's final year at Pitt. He also had exactly one fourth-quarter comeback at Michigan.

About time. He should have been handed a greyhound bus ticket right after the Bills game ended.

Draft w our #2 pick, one of those top 3 guys will be there is my guess, move UP if we have to.

sign a SWING C/G in FA (to let the rook settle in a bit - ROOKS START every year in this league - just not Tomlin's league.....) - or maybe we have that on the roster now, don't know. BLEW this when we DID NOT take Creed Humphrey.

    Another fine drafting moment....

Yup. Passing on Humphrey to take Freiermuth in the second round that year was a big mistake.

personally i'd like to get a free agent center to roll with the vet line we have and use those early draft picks on a CB and DL and possibly ILB. there are some younger centers that are free agents. we need a stud corner. we need to add to the D-line with adams, ogunjobi and cam aging quickly. benton was a good start but it's time.

Should they take this route, Graham Barton becomes more and more appealing. Dude needs a year or so on the position given the fact that he hasn't touched it since his Freshman Season. Dream for me though is obviously on my sig!

If not?! Amarius Mims then Sedrick Van Pran baby! :steelflag:

They started Kendrick "Bust" Green right out of the gate. Who ever they draft will be the starter on day one.

James Danials as well as Nate Herbig could man the center position if needed.

I'm sure they will sign a veteran center before the draft.

The talking heads have been comparing McCarthy to Alex Smith, a game manager with decent athletic ability.

I am tired of the project centers. Time to get a true dedicated center. The last 2 projects have been disasters.

It is amazing how many people forget that JC Hassenauer was the starting center that year, but was injured late in training camp. JC, would later get healthy and retake his starting job late in the year.

Kendrick Green was drafted to be the backup that year.
