Maybe Sullivan will be the passing game coordinator without the title.

In some cases the OC doesn't run the passing game, with the Steelers I expect Smith to handle it though.

Would you explain what you mean

    I’m missing something

If the OC doesn’t run the passing game (or ditto running game) exactly what is he doing

Game planning, which is what a passing game coordinator assists with. Passing game coordinators do not typically call plays on game day.

Pretty much. Same with run game coordinators. They are pretty much assistant offensive coordinators.

I like Sullivan and I’m good with this. I think he did an admirable job under tough circumstances after Canada was fired. Glad he and Faulkner both were retained.

I am going to be curious who goes to the Booth this year. Most of the pictures of Ryan Tannehill and Arthur Smith together are on the sidline.

    There is quality in numbers.
When Bruce Arians was hired at Tampa, that team was mired in mediocrity. He built a staff that seemed like there was coach for every player - that's an exaggeration but he did increase the staff to put eyes on everything.
    Arians was successful.

I have for a while thought the Steelers staff was a little light moving into the era.
With analytics, you want to coach the details to units so that they know the spots to be in given a situation. (Well coached)

I know they also want to intensify the focus on the QB, Kenny.

I remember when Drew Brees came to his first Saints camp.
Sean Payton's QB coach (forget his name) would line up behind the LB's and watch his QB go through progressions.
He would be coaching the little things like 'don't look there, look here so you don't give away the play' type of stuff.
Brees caught on to really quick and became a Jedi with those eye fakes, shoulder fakes, hard counts, change of cadence, etc..... all the little things that can help you out when added to already existing skills he had.

I can't say they will deploy those tactics on Kenny and/or all the QBs. It's not a bad plan to coach them up in great details and break bad habits.....
Maybe they are going with 'the more eyes on, the better.'

Or maybe he just needs a job.

He's still listed as the OLC on the Steelers website. I imagine they quietly retained him.

Interesting Video from the Senior Bowl, where the Steelers once again sent most of their staff. Assistant O-Line coach Isaac Williams seems to mention the major Steelers Staff who he is working with on scouting players. No mention at all of Pat Meyer.

    (munch-munch) (munch-munch) :)

If he was signing with Pittsburgh he would already be signed

Interesting. Going way back i recall how different teams had expanded their coaching staffs to (Oh the shock) 12, the steelers were still at 7. Noll was HC and Sp teams coach, he loved the interaction on the practice field and the ability to teach. I think this was mid 70's and he/they eventually expanded, but even in recent years I have visited different teams sites and their list of coach's far exceeded the Steelers. The old thought and continued saying/ 'they are cheap' is an easy cop out, more likely the game evolves and some are just slow to evolve with it.
