If those were the absolute ONLY choices? Yes.
Those are NOT the absolute only choices though.

It is funny, A fact that DK likes to bring up 10 times every show with Ramon Foster, is that Mason Rudolph was the highest rated QB in the NFL for the last 4 weeks of the season.

They did not have 15 years to get ready for it. The only way to get ready for it is to acquire the next quarterback, which you can't do when the starter is still in his prime because the new guy will be gone by the time the starter's career ends. Their first real attempt at that seemed to be Mason Rudolph. That wasn't 15 years ago.

The straw man argument you have in in your third point brings no value at all to this discussion.

Roethlisberger gets plenty of appreciation for what he did on the field and well-deserved disdain for what he did off it.

Rudolph didn't demolish the Bengals that year. James Conner and Jaylen Samuels did. Rudolph hit one deep ball and everything else was a dump-off to a back against a defense with horrid linebackers. He had some solid moments that year but didn't show anything special. Then he lost his job to a rookie free agent who was out of the league by the following season.

He was good, not great, in three games at the end of his sixth season in the NFL. It is laughable to say he has more upside than anyone in the draft or free agency.

The Matt Canada effect. But I know, coaching doesn’t matter, they should just get rid of them all, useless.

No GM is going to be moved by those two games. They may offer him a BU roll but not one will say we need this guy as our starter.

He had a rating of over 120 and two TD. It’s passing that opens the run game just like it did last year when he was very good for three games. It’s interesting that you crow about Pickett’s Cincinnati game where he did not even have a rating of a 100 and talk down Mason’s game in his first year where he had a rating of over 122. How many times has Pickett surpassed 100 qb rating? I am sure you will say ratings don’t tell complete story. They do tell a lot over period of time. You know what tells even more, having the lowest TD to pass percentage of any qb in nfl history. It’s amazing how Pickett ‘s fan boys will down play Mason’s play while making constant excuses for Pickett. The thing is, both their career will play out this coming year and let’s see where each one is this time next year.

Talk about overinflating the value of Mason... whew.
There's something to be said for a FA market that didn't produce an offer for him. Let that sink in.
And it appears there's not much a market for him this year. (I do expect he'll play somewhere, maybe here but that doesn't sound off a ringing endorsement.)

I love those "Worst yada yada in history" angle.
I can bring back my old Aikman jokes.... "Why did the Cowboys not show up for the game? - someone painted a goal line in front of the bus" (Drum roll please... I'll be here all week)

Kenny Pickett is on his rookie contract.
Even the owner has said - "We have to score more"
Even with Mason, that offense wasn't anywhere near a juggernaut. And that was after they tore out a lot of the garbage from Canada's comic, I mean playbook.

I absolutely do think the Steelers should be looking at a QB.
If a brand-new legit offense (Smith is from the Joe Gibbs school of offense) can't function... you better have plan B and Plan B should be better than trotting out a QB that nobody wants in FA.

NFL is a copycat league. Kurt Warner was bagging groceries. Brady was a 6th round pick. Purdy was the last pick in the draft when Pickett was selected in the first round. Let that sink in.

    Can't buy it.... you're overvaluing a Pinto.
Kurt Warner, I could never figure out that issue, that guy was good in college. But stuff happens...
He performed everywhere he got a shot... NFL scouts whiffed on him, big time. Might have cost a few their jobs.
The stories are not even close.
Surely, you're not suggesting Mason is a hidden Kurt Warner.... don't want that to sink in.

    my DRUTHERS are Mason.

Flacco is very limited, Mason is much more mobile and 'moldable' still in a new OC Scheme.

People need to put their fandom aside and look at it from the perspective of do you really think they’ve had a hidden gem on their own roster for 6 years. Would make for a fantastic story but the odds are almost nill. And lets say he is even another Geno Smith, is that what you want to hang your hat on.

Yeah, but Purdy plays in Shanahan's offense. Big difference from Canada's offense. Pickett would be a much better QB in the 49ers offense. Let's see how KP does within Arthur Smith's offense before we scrap him and draft another QB in round 1.

Kordell Stewart took the Steelers to 2 AFC Championships with Gailey and Mularkey as OC. He was awful under Gillbride. OC really does matter.

No Mason played against the Rams in a 17-12 win. Rudolph was 22-38 for 242 yards and a TD to James Washington. Jared Goff threw 3 picks, was sacked 4 times and Minkah picked up one of Goff's fumbles and ran it in for a TD. You might be thinking about the Chargers game that we won with Hodges.

You are right. Somehow missed that . He had a Qb rating of 85.6 which is Ok for a first year starter. Still a pretty strong start to his career prior to injury. I don’t have time to look up first year stats of elite qb’s, but Mason’s stat are on par with Kirk Cousins level of play. He certainly belongs in the middling nfl qbs like Alex Smith, Kirk Cousins, Brian Sipe, NOD, etc.

Are you sure that the dumb play calling was by Canada? Or isn't it likely it was heavily influenced by Tomlin and his sheer terrorized condition of being scared as F of turnovers? For ONE WEEK they threw the ball down the middle of the field after they dumped Canada - and it resulted in over 400 yards of offense - and after that week, boom, back to being scared of the middle of the field.

"Oh my God, turnovers can happen when you throw it to the middle! My God, noooooo!!!!!!!!!"

    Random question...

Anybody remember Druthers restaurants (formerly Burger Queen)? Awesome fish sandwiches! My dad would take me there after baseball games when I was in high school. Good memories.

A good backup has value. Mason is not a 17 game starter quality QB. He is a fill in for a 3-4 game stretch quality QB. $2M-$3M per season is his range.

Never knew Burger King had a Burger Queen. Could Druthers have been around late 60's, early 70's?? Heard that name somewhere.
