*Very interesting comment from Colbert: When asked if the team would place the franchise tag on anyone this off-season Colbert said it was doubtful because: ”I don’t think we have too many franchise players.” Ouch.

*Interesting observation on our running game from Colbert: ”Where we were in running game last year was indicative of the talent at the position.” I would be floored if Mendenhall and his big contract came back. Is it possible we DO target somebody like Eddie Lacy with a first-round pick? I think this team has survived over the years with marginal talent in the backfield and a stellar o-line up front (#barryfoster, #erricpegram, #bammorris, #amoszeroue, #willieparker) and I think a quality o-line also helps to keep your franchise qb upright and give him time to do his thing, but that's just me. I felt the Mendenhall pick was a waste at the time because we did have secondary and o-line needs at the time. Are we really going to target a running back with our first-round pick when he have more pressing needs elsewhere?

*The kid writing this article looks like he's twelve, but I agree that I think Harrison is done in the Burgh (is Worilds going to be able to step in and play at a high level?). Colon too (but, of all of a sudden, our o-line seems to be looking pretty good -- AND YOUNG!). Keisel would be a bit of a surprise to me if he were let go but it might be time to open the door for some younger talent and reduce our cap. Hampton too, I guess.

*Looks like most of the core pieces of our mini-dynasty (XL & XLIII -- wish we would've nabbed XLV!) are gone now (Harrison, Hampton, Aaron Smith, Keisel, Farrior, Foote?, Bettis, Ward, etc). Hope to heck we've reloaded. It's time for Worilds, Heyward, Hood, McClendon, Sylvester, Spence, Dwyer, Sanders, Antonio Brown, and others to step up now). Seems like a lot of talent washed away with very little promise on the horizon if I were to be unbiased.

    roster shake-ups coming.....

Per kevin colbert, there will probably be a significant shake-up in our roster... not sure who will be gone, but i have a few ideas.... most on the board are of the same opinion on some departures, and some have been hotly debated..i personally think that we say goodbye to casey hampton, rashard mendenhall, mike wallace.... depending on f.a. and the draft, we could be saying bye to larry foote, max starks and willie colon (although, i'm a colon fan, his salary and injury history may make him expendable)...
    Thoughts?????

it sounds like Wallace and Mendy wont be back. it also sounds like Dwyer and Red will be back.

also they are going to let all their free agents test the market.

the older guys need to go for the most part. this team is old and they need some new blood.

I agree on the defensive side of the ball, but the offense is actually quite young.

i would not have a problem if they went with lacy, but i still prefer elam at safety. this spot needs addressed.

as far as OLB, worilds can play as well as woodley but neither are as good as harrison on that side. that requires a little different skillset on that side. i'd have no trouble bringing harrison back for another year.

Sadly I think the time has come for some of our older warriors. I like what we are seeing with Cortez Allen, looks like this kid will be a playmaker for us. I think we should draft a pass rush specialist who can start day one and the turnovers will magically return for us! I think we also need a workhorse running back who will move the chains for us and give the O some explosiveness. If Wallace goes I'd love to see us grab Dwayne Bowe from K.C. I think he and Ben would click right away and our offense would greatly improve over last years just by these moves alone. Curious as to what you guys think about Colbert's assessment of our team.

I don't think you can call mendy a waste of a pick considering we only had an injured FWP in front of him.

i think is making ready all the veterans to pack their luggages , or take a big pay cut , and to wallace mendy and lewis they are not going to break the bank (expecially lewis the other are gone anyway ) and for the coaches every body is under scrutiny

the offense is young true, but the best RB and the best WR are about to leave this team, to the thunderous applause of a lot of the fan base, and without adequate replacement. Both guys are young, and so will be there replacements. But will they be as good?

they will go as the new young o-line goes. as i've said before goodbye max, colon and foster. i want to see the youth movement here on the o-line. enough is enough of fat and slow.

don't forget the safety spot. we are very old and very thin.

I can't be the only one counting down the days till the daya fter the SuperBowl. I just want this offseason to get started already (gawd I HATE LOSING!), Im curious and anxious to see what we do. I'm so anxious for the draft and free agency even though thats like 70 days away. All I know is that if Keenan Lewis walks because the Steelers would not re sign him I WILL FLIP ! Im sick of the Steelers raising talent to a high level than have them leave because we can not give them long term contracts instead we just ride them on the bench till their contract year. We should not be a farm system for mediocre cap free teams cough cough Cardinals,Jets,Colts,. I don't want to see another Santonio Holmes,Mike Wallace, Joey Porter, Chris Hope, Plaxico Burress situation ever again. If Keenan Lewis leaves I will be rioting outside Steelers facilty.Who will be joining me?

The way I read this was that Colbert wanted to give the impression that noone is "safe". I think if there were to be MAJOR changes it would take more than getting rid of a few o-linemen. Maybe he's getting sick of unconditioned players. Maybe he's getting sick of undisciplined players. I wonder if we might see some shocking trade or cut that will get the attention of the guys remaining. Still a part of me is a little uncomfortable with a GM acting like this just because it doesn't seem very Steelery to me. I mean we all dog on Jerry Jones for trying to run the show instead of letting the coaches coach so that is what I mean by that. At the same time I am also glad to know that the front office seems as disgusted as the fan base too though. But it also seems to me that MAJOR changes would have to maybe include some major cuts and then making a big splash in free agency or something. I just think it's pretty broad but I DEFINITELY can't wait to see what he means or if he even does anything at all.

I'm not a big Lewis fan. I think he benefitted from Ike getting hurt and then an even worse corner like Josh Victorian got put in there and he wasn't getting thrown at as much. I'm probably actually in the minority but I'm just not a big fan of him because I also don't think he can catch either. Neither can Ike which is why I'm not a big fan of him too.

I like Lacy but a #1 draft pick on a RB is a waste to me. They are simply too easy to get in later rounds.

Our RB situation is actually at a position which can be fixed without a high draft pick with proper scouting. 2 of the top 5 rushers in the league were rookies. 1 in the first round...Doug Martin, and one taken much later. Alfred Morris was taken in the 6th round.

They need to re energize the fan base, Colbert and the whole FO
staff, coaching staff,SCOUTING dept. need to look at ALL avenues
when aquiring talent. I especially enjoyed reading the part about an 8 and 8 team.
Its unacceptable and he feels thats what type of players he currently has on this team.
I mentioned in a thread just after the end of the season. that MAJOR changes
are on the way, I just hope they go through with it? There is only 1 player
that is untouchable on this roster, all others can be replaced. Just like in
the general population, everybody can be replaced.COACHES INCLUDED, I am
sorry they are not TEACHING THE STEELER WAY, They are not getting the most
out of these ball players. Player development is taking to long, Cam Heyward, ZIGGY HOOD
what the F is going on? 2 first round draft choices that have produced NOTHING?

Re energize the fan base? Three Super Bowl appearances in the last eight seasons should be enough. The Browns, Jaguars, Chiefs, they need to re energize their fan base. Maybe Clark was right when he said Steelers fans are spoiled.
