We’ve heard a thousand different opinions from a thousand different so-called experts about who the Steelers plan to bring in to compete with or backup Kenny Pickett next season. I don’t think there’s any doubt that the Steelers will bring in a veteran but I guess the question is will it be someone who will actually legitimately compete with Pickett for the starting job or will it be someone to simply be a quality backup to Pickett?

I know we’ve had much discussion on this board about that, but I thought it might be interesting to take the temperature of the board members to see which veteran you think the Steelers will ultimately end up with going into next season. Keep in mind hat this poll is not who you WANT them to bring in, but who you actually think they WILL bring in.

    We’ll revisit this later.:smiley1:

As for my vote, I think Omar Khan finds a way to get it done with Mason Rudolph. If not Mason, Tannehill will be the guy.

I don’t look for the Steelers to draft a QB in the first round, but this poll is specifically about which current NFL quarterback will end up with the Steelers.

I think it will be Ryan Tannehill no matter what.If this is Cousins,Fields,Wilson or Mayfield, they would be the steelers starter if they have one of them

Out of those choices I'd take MR. Or JF

MR may sign again, but unless Omar wows him with a cash offer he would foolish to not at least see what other teams show interest. By his showing last year he at least has the arrow pointing his way, when last year he seemingly did not get interest at all. Besides him the only one that really interests me on that list is Minshew. The others bring a variety of different issues that seem more problematic than their value. Most have been talked about, but my biggest issue is getting caught in a rotating CAP hell pouring money into reclamation projects, hoping they can do something they have never really done in the past, or are past their prime to really be able to do much. Having a Neil Odonnel right now would actually be welcome to the cost of what these guys would bring.

I think Minshew would fit our system more than any of the other options.
I don’t want Wilson, Fields, Cousins, Mayfield, Brissett or Smith for various reasons towards each of them individually speaking.

I can only say who I want. I want Mason. I don't like going with other peoples mistakes. The only Qb that wasn't another teams mistakes , and I actually think was way better than Mason in his day...is almost done with football....so it would be a set back to bring Him in.

The BS I see and read seems to favor Ryan Tannehill. I have zero idea what they will do but middle March we will know.

Mason is a tough guess. Would the Steelers bring in a Vet plus sign Mason?? I can't see it. IMO Mason will not be a Steeler end of March. We shall see.

I can't see many agreeing with me but I wouldn't get mad if Baker Mayfly dons black and gold. Under 30 and in my humble opinion he'd smoke Kenny.

He just got busted for PEDs. Add that to his erratic play and injury history, and that's a hard pass.

I would like to see them get Mayfield, but it's not realistic. I think he is staying in Tampa. He certainly isn't leaving for Pittsburgh unless the Steelers committed to him being the starter.

I agree with the others, though Brissett wouldn't be a horrible option as a backup.

As I just wrote in another post, I can't see Mayfield signing with any team that isn't going to commit to him as the starter. In that case, he might as well stay in Tampa.

Minshew brings the issue of throwing way too many hospital balls. (I forget which analyst I heard using the term, but they are right). He leads vulnerable receivers right into defenders with his throws way too often. We saw at least three of those against the Steelers. I don't hate the idea of bringing him in as a backup/veteran to push Pickett, but he's got his flaws, too.

I would think the same applies for Cousins, Russ and perhaps a little less for Jimmy G. Even it the Broncos cut Russ and you could possibly pick him up on a cheap deal (as the Broncs will pay whatever is owed, less what he signs for), he is not one to sit quietly as a back up.

Minshew throws hospital balls because he doesn't have a strong arm, that's why he lasted until the 6th round despite setting all kinds of passing records at Washington State. He is a gym rat though and gets the maximum out of his ability, he leaves it all on the field.

The biggest problem with replacing Pickett is tomlins ego .We have or maybe had a qb who moves in the pocket instead of panicking , reads defense's ,and has a fairly strong arm but also a hc with a very thick head who is great with excuses but sadly no solutions.

That description could apply to a couple of the QBs above but I think you’re talking about Cousins? The other one I’m thinking about is Wilson but I suppose he could be considered a mistake by the Broncos.

Actually Wilson, and Cousins were both good at one time. I would take Wilson 5 years ago in a minute. I wouldn't take him by the time Seattle let him go. As of now they would be both a patch on a tire. Better than Trubisky was, but that's not hard. Again in My opinion....no teams let Qbs go that they have faith in a future with. Qbs are too hard to come by.

I'm not sure Garropolo is going to have much of a choice. I think it goes without saying that Cousins and Wilson will not sign with any team that doesn't commit to them as a starter.

Yup. The league suspended him for two games and the Raiders are going to cut him.

Like scribe said 2 games and from what was written nothing really suspicious. Some topical, OTC, or prescribed med that had something forbidden in the rule book. It may have been a known violation, or just oversight...2 games is pretty light, but that's how the league roles and the union is so week they will do nothing.
