Which was the better team? The 1995 Pittsburgh Steelers or the 2010 Pittsburgh Steelers.

The 1995 Steelers were coached by Bill Cowher and had an 11-5 record and lost in Super Bowl XXX to the Dallas Cowboys 27-17.

The '95 Steelers on offense were quarterbacked by Neil O'Donnell with Eric Pegram and Bam Morris at running back and a quartet of receivers in Yancey Thigpen, Andre Hastings, Ernie Mills and Charles Johnson. On defense, the '95 Steelers had one of the greatest linebacking corps in NFL history in Kevin Greene, Levon Kirkland, Greg Lloyd and Chad Brown.

Thigpen, Greene, Lloyd and Carnell Lake were Pro Bowl selections.

The 2010 Steelers were coached by Mike Tomlin and had a 12-4 record and lost in Super Bowl XLV to the Green Bay Packers 31-25.

The Steelers were led by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, Rashard Mendenhall and Mike Wallace on offense. Maurkice Pouncey, Brett Keisel, James Harrison and Troy Polamalu were Pro Bowl selections.

It can easily be argued that both teams were the second best in the NFL that season but which was better?

2010 was better, basically because the QB was a two time SB winner along with several other players.

2010 Steelers by far. No contest.

Big Ben far surpasses Neil O Donnell.

Yeah Ben easily over O Donnell, but I’d rather have that 95 defense and Pegram/Morris over Mendy

Interestingly, the 2010 squad was actually better with a number of statistics in those two areas:

    Defense
    Points allowed - 2010: 232 (1st); 1995: 327 (9th)

    Yards allowed - 2010: 4429 (2nd); 1995: 4561 (3rd)

    Takeaways - 2010: 35 (3rd); 1995: 34 (T-9th)

    Sacks - 2010: 48 (1st); 1995: 42 (8th)

    QBR against - 2010: 73.1 (2nd); 1995: 76.7 (T-11th)

    Rushing Offense
    Total yards - 2010: 1924 (11th); 1995: 1852 (12th)

    YPC - 2010: 4.1 (T-9th); 1995: 3.7 (T-9th)

    TD - 2010: 15 (6th); 1995: 17 (4th)

I was too young to remember the '95 squad, but I remember owning the team's Video Yearbook "60 Minute Men" on VHS. I also had the yearbook from the '94 team, "Steel City Fire". I may have watched both over a hundred times. My vote goes to the '95 Team simply for the nostalgia.

That is interesting, Greg Loyd and Kevin Greene were such a mainstay, such a powerful duo. Maybe we forget that Woodson was out for a chunk of the year, also they were the first really dominant defense we had since the steel curtain that they made a big impact

    I mean....

That team is on the shortlist of "Greatest Teams Ever"; same goes for the rest of that teams run from 1974-1979.

I'd say the 1995 steelers were a better overall team. They lost rod Woodson and still made it to the superbowl where they won the game in every area except the final score. They pretty much stymied a loaded dynasty team and shutdown emmit to under 50 yards. But as that superbowl showed the qb was the xfactor and there's no comparing ben to the man that threw 2 interceptions straight to a white jersey without a black jersey within 10-15 yards. Those 2 plays will forever make me go, hhmmm..

Here's something to add to the mix. Which Steelers team was the best one and done team?

To be fair, the 1995 team took a while to figure things out after they lost Woodson. Lake had to make the adjustment to cornerback on the fly. They were a lot better by the end of the season.

1995 team for me even though statistically they were behind the 2010 team but boy that defense sure was exciting. NOD was really really good until the lousy 2 picks that defined his career.

Both teams lost the Super Bowl, so I really don't care.

You do realize Ben threw 2 picks, including a pick 6, right? Not to mention failing to covert a first down from 2nd and 5…Ben was not at his best in Super Bowls

1995... slightly better on defense. 2010.... slightly better on offense.

1995 team with Ben as QB would have won the Super Bowl easily instead of losing.

And on top of that he would have been the youngest to win it at 12 years old!

That's true he wasn't Bradshaw in the big game but you had a good field general that could make a comeback when needed. The next best qb we've had in comparison to ben or Terry is a HUGE drop-off imo so that's what I was meaning.

Yeah, because Mike Tomlin let his friend Ben stay out after curfew getting drunk and singing Piano Man
