That Center from Oregon is very enticing though in the first. He is a moose. He sure would solidify the interior of the line. If we go for him assuming he gets past Seattle we pretty much are stuck with Dan Moore for another year at LT. Or do you go for the OT in the first and hope to get Frazier in the second?

I agree center has to be top priority. We need a solid anchor for that line. And to be able to create and maintain a clean pocket for the QB, clean snaps, anchor the running attack, I’d be surprised if they don’t pickup a top FA or go center in the first or at the very least second round

Steelers have so many needs ... I almost don't see them going Center in the first ... my fear is they wait until round 2 for center and the guy, or guys, they want won't be there.

    You're overlooking the best punter.

    This.

For that matter, the CB bust rate is comically high. For every Ahmad Sauce Gardner... there is a Jeffrey Okudah.

I personally do enjoy the fact that the Steelers are making a concentrated effort to finally upgrade their passing game; namely in the hires of Zach Azzanni and Tom Arth. Now, a Passing Game Specialist would be interesting as the Steelers never have had any Coach in their history to do so but I don't think of such as nearly as a big deal. Having Kenny maximize his capabilities is what is going to be paramount.

Now, I did say in another thread that while Tom Arth did play a role in Justin Herbert's development in his Rookie Season, Shane Steichen should also receive just as much credit for doing so.

Depending on one's viewpoint, Cooper DeJean is considered the best Safety in the class. Only reason why I don't personally have him as such is due to the fact that he is best deployed as a multi role DB and should not be static to one position. If talking about Safeties as a whole, Tyler Nubin from Minnesota or Kamren Kinchens from the University of Miami are two enticing options to consider.

I don't think this is being argued (minus the 'comically' portion).

But it raises the question, if you have a) a need at OT and CB (arguably more at CB); b) a draft deeper on tackle than corner; and c) when your number is called at pick 20, have a corner rated a bit higher than the available tackles; are you saying you take the tackle because corners are risky? The corners will only increase in risk the later they're selected, which would seem to negate any draft capital you're saving by using a later pick. If you plan on building the secondary out of free agents it's going to get expensive quickly - and, as Peterson and Wallace showed last year, can be just as hazardous.

I'm not saying they should force a corner pick in the first. I think a Fuaga or JPJ would be great fits. I just don't think, particularly as things sit right now, you shy away from the CB possibility because it shows a greater degree of risk.

I wonder how much of that high bust rate for corners is due to teams often having to project how a guy will fit what they want to do because there’s not always enough film of him playing their style of coverage in college. There is such a difference in what it takes to play different coverage schemes well, that the corner position is almost like several different positions. It’s not just man vs. zone, it’s also types of man and zone coverages. A smaller corner can excel in off man coverage but be demolished in press man coverage, or a guy who excels in Cover 3 with the ball in front of him can suck playing up close in Cover 2. You can have a guy that ticks all of the physical trait boxes to be a top tier press man coverage corner, but if he mainly played Cover 2 in college you really don’t know if he has (or can develop) the twitch and technique for press man. I find it so challenging to evaluate corners.

If Jackson Powers-Johnson is there at 20 you pick him. This will solve the center issue for years and they can jettison Cole. Day one starter.

Save 6,271 mill with a dead cap of 1,521 mill. No brainer.

    20: Amarius Mims OT Georgia

51: Edgerrin Cooper ILB Texas A&M

84: Sedrick Van Pran Center Georgia

This is not a prediction, just a wish list. I would probably love 2 DBs with the 4th round picks as well.

This wld eliminate the gamble of taking a CB early, and then stock up on a CB and S mid rounds. We need fresh wheels at ILB. I do believe that Holcomb and Kwon will be back but we should draft one as insurance. All this of course can change w Free agency, also people sometimes forget we have Cory Trice CB

Didn't we draft the current punter from GT?

I dont' think anyone should EVER draft a punter or kicker. Too many good ones signed as UDFAs over the decades. The key to both in bringing in a handful to camp and see which one shakes out most consistently. Don't worry about the booming leg, get the one that can repeat the process over and over with very rare mis-step or mis-hits.

We've also seen lots of kickers and punters get drafted in rounds 5-7 only to bust hard. There are some that turned into All-Pros, but the hit rate is low.

I'm coming around to that thinking, though there was a report that they really like Frazier. They have passed on too many plug-and-play centers the last few seasons and it has cost them. They need to either sign a proven veteran or spend the high pick to fix the position.
