A month since reports stated he’d be in demand this offseason and still here, haven’t heard of any interviews. Would think that would mean he is safe for another year since the draft process has already begun.

Good. Finish building that line, Andy.

Very odd indeed given how great this draft class was. Really thought that Weidl would have been gone by this point.

I wonder if some Owners are still holding his final draft with the Eagles in 2020 against him. Yes.... Jalen Raegor was definitley a miss; ditto Davion Taylor. However, given the fact that the team did land Jalen Hurts?!

That had to account for something.

Don't be surprised if Weidl doesn't end up the GM of the Steelers and Kahn doesn't get promoted to some type of VP in the near future.

VP of Football Operations? I hear they are the ones really making all the moves behind the scenes.

You guys don't follow the Steelers closely enough. You guys don't even recognize the impact that ownership has over decisions behind the scenes.

Put yourself in the shoes of an owner of a team that is worth billions.

You’re right AQL, I expected to lose him immediately this offseason after he crushed it in last year’s draft.

Benefits us though so I’m glad he’s staying. Imagine how big of an impact one or two more drafts like this last one would have on the makeup of this team.

    Let's hope he stays.

Who knows what NFL GM openings will happen by that point?!

saw two articles today about O-Line prospects and a D-Line prospect the other day.

zach fraizer center from west virginia. it said the steelers are in love with him.

also zoning in on taliese fuaga OT from oregon state.

michael hall DT from ohio oops sorry the ohio state university.

weidl make it happen. hope he stays a long time. 3 really good choices. i'd still like a CB in the mix but this would be a good grab. :smiley1::cool:

Why would Khan the GM, accept a 'promotion' to some VP position? He was VP of football and business administration under Colbert and is now GM, Andy is asst GM. Whatever their duties are Omar is listed as GM, if they want to promote him to a different title and give GM to Andy fine, but going to Vice something would be a demotion.

Howie Roseman is the GM. Weidl was Vice President of Player Personnel so you really can't put a lot of blame in that draft on him. Yes he was part of it but it's Roseman who pulls the trigger.

Just so glad he is still with us. Maybe the Steelers fielded some calls and said he wasn't available. I could see that.

aybe Andy isn’t interested in leaving the Burgh right now. Maybe he just wants to be here and be a part of what’s being built here.

I fully expect him to be here at least 3-5 years before someone makes him an offer He Can’t Refused.

Why would they do that? Khan is doing a great job so far. He has only been the GM a short time. He's only 47 years old, so he could be there for a long time.

A lot of it depends on how much pull he has with the organization, right? Like if Andy is the VP of personnel and Omar is VP of salary cap, then he is essentially a defacto GM. He also is working for an organization that is stable and gives extremely high job security to folks in these positions. Why take a GM job for slightly more money on a team that would fire their GM at the drop of a hat? He can stay here, get paid well, and have nearly as much say in the building of the organization as he would elsewhere.... all while having the highest job security he could possibly have for someone in his position.

I think it would have to be a pretty darn good GM job to pull him away.

I mean you are totally correct....why would President of Football operations have anything to do with making decisions?? LoL. I mean what would Firefighters have anything to do with fighting fires, or chefs with making food??? LoL.
Do You actually read what You write sometimes???

Because they may not want to loose Weidl and they want to keep Kahn. Kahn would still be Weidl's boss and drafting and signing responsibility can still be Kahn's overall....it would simply be a way to promote and pay their people. Ultimately the responsibilities of the position are whatever ARII wants them to be.

Don't forget that Kahn is young at 47 but he has worked for the Steelers front office for the past 23 years and has worked in an NFL front office for 27 years.

They could also simply promote Andy Weidl to an assistant GM position if they needed to entice him to stay.

My first vehicle was a 1959 Willys CJ5 I had my brother test drive it because I had never driven a stick it was a Tuesday
My brother told me he would teach me on Saturday
The day we brought it home I stared out the window at my new toy and couldn’t take it anymore
On the Pittsburgh hills that night I went out and learned
I didn’t go home until I knew how to drive it
