Was it because of the QB issue? The problem is Pickett and Ridder might be the same guy.

Starting? Unless its all in Khan's hands, I doubt we'll get anyone that has NOT been a prior OC disappointment on another team. We'll be left at the scrap table after dinner (fighting the dog for the leftovers) and getting an OC that was a big part of a horrible offense in the past two or three years. Arthur Smith or Thomas/CAR will be our leftover. If it's Smith, prepare for him to NOT use any of the best weapons, except in short bursts, once every 5 or 6 games. Who is our RB3 or WR5, they may become VERY important.

And under-center QB and lots of play action. It can freeze an LB and an S for that 1/2 second and really open up routes and just enough hesitation on actual runs to have that same LB or S be a step late to filling the hole in the DL.

No full time shotgun crap. Part time fine, but limited. I agree on using an FB if you're determined to run with POWER and not finesse crap. Unleash the good OL and go draft one that is a top run blocker with ability to be solid in PB.

We have a couple of good tight ends, have em both on the field, with PF running routes more like LaPorta and Washington in blocking and being a safety valve if need be.

I haven't even seen more than one or two posters on here "freaking out".

Intentional hyperbole to get things stirred up?

Robinson isn't even proven, I am not all that torn up about him.

Now, if we get cast-off Arthur Smith then yeah, Steelers fans should be upset. Guy is a freaking clown and Falcons fans are more excited he's gone than Robinson is on board.

AMEN to that. I don't get this. I surely hope Kubiak and a couple of others got a phone interview or something and we just haven't heard about it.

It wouldn't shock me if no one wants this job with crappy QB situation and Tomlin, but at least cast a wide net and don't lock on to anyone that has a "strong" interview. That's 1 hour of time which could lead to beer goggles and 3 years of bottom five offenses. Do the background work. Look for a few college OCs that REALLY turned around bad offenses in the past two years. Ones that worked under a respected HC.

The fans of the crappy Falcons are giddy he's gone. Why do we want a failed HC that ran a train-wreck offense? One that had better grouping of players (better OL), young, talented RB, WR1 and TE1, yet combined I think they broke 100 yards running/receiving all of 4 or 5 times all season, while crappy backups were getting lots of touches. I could see it if they were all 30 or 32 years old, but they're all super young and could play ever snap without needing a breather.

Even with a poor QB, they can still TARGET their best weapons when they DO pass or handoff the ball, right? So if you have a bad QB, you're best idea as HC and default OC is to really handicap a below-average QB by having him throw to your second or third best WR or TE or RB? BRILLIANT!

No excuse for London not getting 10+ targets EVERY game. Just about the same for TE Pitts. They had Pitts blocking alot, when he's a crappy blocker. Bijan should have gotten a combined 25 touches/targets every game too. This happened ZERO times in 2023. That said he did get 24 twice, so we'll count those as TWO times, but lots of sub 20 and some sub 15s...sad when you picked him in the top 10 as a generational RB that is game-changing.

I don't want Smith, but there are far, far worse OCs out there.

I just hope thats not the consensus with fans and pundits alike...

"What do you think about the Steelers new OC?"
"well, it's not a bad hire."

If no one can say its a good hire, it's starting off on the wrong foot. It tells me coaches aren't really giddy about setting back their careers working with Tomlin.

Interview window has closed until after the SB. Teams were allowed to interview him before now like the Saints did. Can only hope the Steelers did and just didn’t hear about it. Maybe even a zoom interview, no one would know about that.

Of the candidates out there right now, who do you think would be a guy that would have the majority of Steeler fans saying “that’s a great hire!”? Kubiak maybe? Reich? McDaniels? Van Pelt? The pickin’s are really pretty slim overall. After the better know guys we then get into the guys like Brown and Johnson, lesser known guys with limited resumes but with promise.

Did Smith call the plays in Atlanta or did his OC? He obviously had success in Tennessee with a run first team built much like the Steelers. I think it could make sense.
