Did Tomlin have his team prepared and completely focused on the task at hand?

this sounds good! I can’t back it up. I know nothing about how they prepared, but this is gold!

Tomlin has the players prepared and focused up to his standard, it's evident on the field game after game, season after season.

There might not be a minority that gushes over non-losing seasons, because that group might be a majority. It is pretty much the #1 thing the media points to when expressing how "great" of a coach Tomlin is. We keep hearing how happy we should be that we are always competitive for a playoff spot, which is all well and good, but that reasoning alone should be why we shouldn't be upset that Tomlin can't lead us to many playoff wins the past 13 years. The problem is that everyone has to be aligned so polarly on the topic. It's either Tomlin is awesome and we're dumb for questioning him, he's COTY material OR he's out over his skis, totally sucks, will never win again, etc.

The reality is always somewhere in the middle. Tomlin obviously isn't horrible, and that is factually false. If he were, our team would perform much worse than they have over his tenure. It is also factually true that Tomlin isn't some wizard that should be up for COTY every year or some top 5-10 coach the league has to offer. That hasn't been true for about a decade. Tomlin is an NFL caliber coach that has earned a lot of success, most of which was early in his career. He is good enough to coach good teams and middling teams alike to playoff contention, where his deficiencies as a coach get exposed causing him to lose the majority of these games (all of them in the recent past).

Could we do worse than Tomlin? Absolutely... Could we do better? Yes, we absolutely can. We shouldn't make a change just to change, but I think there are a real number of people that would be worth taking that chance on. Tomlin isn't so good that we couldn't let him go and we'd guaranteed be worse for it.

Yes, we ran more man this year than we have in year's past. This isn't necessarily what Tomlin has been known for (and not something that we have seen a lot of in the past from Tomlin defenses). It appears that we are trying to move away from our heavy zone scheme of the past (the right call), but I would prefer someone at the helm of that defense that is a great mind in this area. We have a Tampa 2 guru trying to rebuild a defense to be a lot heavier man-schemed. Its why I find it super disappointing that we keep sending out guys like Butler and Austin instead of trying to bring someone in to help out with a history in the defensive scheme we are trying to move to.

Dan Kovacevic said it on one of his recent "daily shots" and he not only covers the team but has credentials with the organization. I've heard it other places before but that was the most recent. Here is the link, the part of the video he says it is after the 11 minute mark.

The micromanaging part could be or could not be, I'm not saying its definitive one way or the other. But you can put two and two together and have it not be a stretch.

Not every game has been the same, so its hard to give just a simple answer... Just looking at the last 5 (all losses)

    1. We lost to the Pats because we are consistently out schemed against them. Tomlin always has been out coached by Belichick.
    2. We lost to Jacksonville because the players and coaches overlooked them.
    3. We lost to Cleveland in the exact same manner.
    4. We lost to Kansas City because we were probably just wildly out matched.
    5. We lost to Buffalo in a combination of being out schemed to start and out played

Of course the made up crap

we lost because we turned the ball over. The bills are the better team the only way we win that game is if we play a perfect game and the bills don’t. That’s not what happened. We lost to the browns because Ben and pouncey spotted them 28 points in a quarter. Not some mythical bs about overlooking them.

How many yards did Tomlins D give up to Cleveland in that game at home??

Well are they not a major factor in the game of football? Seeing as the objective is to gain yards and score points? Notice how I didn’t mention the 48 points because not all of that was actually on the D. The yards against however were.

The objective is to win. You win by scoring more points. You can still win by not scoring on offense. It isn’t easy, but it’s possible. We won games this year because of scores by the defense. Guess what buddy? They don’t count as yards accumulated

That’s true. I actually wish I had that type of passion for something in my life the way he looks at Michael Tomlin.

Now you're making sense. The more time the opposing offense possess the ball and accumulates yards, the more opportunities the Steelers D has to score.

How do you prepare for your center to snap the ball over your QB head the first play of the game, or your franchise QB throws 4 interceptions against the Browns in a playoff game?
