Please help me understand the importance of the "playoff win stat." People get all up in arms because the Steelers haven't won a playoff game in 7 years. Now, NOT making the playoffs in 7 years is a totally different story. We all know the goal of every team is to win the SB, anything short of that is disappointing.

    3 wins in 9 years

    15 wins in 23 years

28 post season games in 23 years

sure could be better but it could be a whole hell of a lot worse.

    Still loving it.

Well their is a minority that gush over winning seasons. Is that you? I don't. Stale and at a Stalemate. The real Standard is winning playoff games and competing for a Championship. Anything less is a failure. They are far from that. Possibly the new offensive coordinator who ever that will be can turn the offense around. And possibly they can actually WIN a playoff game! That's if he is allowed to run HIS system and bring this into the present. Throw that conservative garbage playbook into the trash.

    correct.

too many are content with average.

not me. I want rings or at least the possibility of them. To compete at a high level. We have not done this in a LONG TIME.

No. There is no minority that gushes over winning seasons. There are fans like yourself that get all worked up over it. Y’all and the media are the ones that keep bringing it up.

Amazing how this crap spreads like wildfire. A few of my favorites. Tomlin doesn’t know x’s and o’s. Tomlin is a micromanager. We will never win again as long as x is coach. It was a terrible game plan? Oh really? What was the gameplan? #crickets

I keep hearing people fuss about not having a playoff win in 7 years, so would people be satisfied if the Steelers had beat Buffalo and then lost to KC? As for gushing over winning seasons - yes, I'm all in. It's very rare for a team to make it to the playoffs without a winning regular season record. The only negative of a winning regular season is not being able to grab a top tier QB.

Before this year's playoffs, John Harbaugh had won two playoff games since 2012 and 1 in the past 8 years. In his case, patience seems to be paying off. We shall see how it goes with Tomlin.

The only stat that matters in playoffs is the Superbowl winner.

If we lost in the divisional round all the time, then folks would find something else to be mad about.

I would like to see the Steelers be in the hunt way more often than they have been since 2011...When you are in the hunt often, the chances of winning a super bowl at some point are much better...It's terrible to always be eliminated after the wild card round...Btw here a very impressive stats below!

The steelers have been in the AFC title game 8 times between 1994 to 2010...Only once since that time

The anti Tomlin talking points are parroted by people who never wanted to see him as the coach in the first place.

There’s no franchise in the nfl that is always in championship contention, or always winning playoff games, or even always in the playoffs. Every single team goes thru extended stretches where they aren’t championship competitive. It’s the nature of the NFL. There isn’t one team who hasn’t gone thru this. It’s been 30 years since the 9ers won a SB. The Cowboys haven’t been to a nfc championship game in almost 30 years. The patriots just went 4-13.

I think the problem that most people have is that it's kind of like an honorable mention or an also was there for a stat....... Every year, the goal is to be the team that wins the super bowl. Everybody else did not get to where they wanted to be. So just making the playoffs and being a one and done team is kind of like a footnote on history........Yeah I was there when somebody else did something and I saw them do it....... Nobody else cares and they won't remember who the guy standing in the crowd wearing a red shirt was 20 years later......

The ultimate goal is to win a Super Bowl for any given season (especially in Pittsburgh with some of the teams we've had) like you mentioned. Can't win the Super Bowl without winning in the playoffs, so it is a relevant stat for an organization that measures itself in championships and not playoff appearances. When you go 3-8 in the playoffs for the past 13 years its seen as a disappointment, especially when we've had some pretty good teams in that span. Now making the playoffs 8/13 years is not bad (you could argue that we've had a team good enough to be a playoff team in all 13 of those seasons), but to only win a playoff game in 2 of those 8 years is not ideal (we won 2 playoff games in 2016).

Its just a stat that shows that our franchise's performance in the past 13 years has been bad. Especially when the previous 13 years saw us go 13-6 in the playoffs with 2 SB wins. It can both be nice that we tend to make the playoffs most of the time and suck to continue to lose in the postseason.

Well the Steelers have certainly checked all the boxes that you have mentioned over the past decade and a half. Seems like ignoring the problem is the actual standard but some people don’t want to address the elephant in the room.

Did Tomlin turn the ball over multiple times vs the bills? Did tomlin spot the browns 28 points in a quarter? Did Tomlin throw two interceptions one of which was a pick 6 in the Super Bowl? #truth

I absolutely loved the hire and was completely onboard until November 2016 when I saw Tomlin was out of his depth. He's yet to prove me wrong.

You're right about the SB winner. I used to be able to rattle them off up to about SB 40 then damn memory had the nerve to grow old along with me. We have been to the Playoffs 34 times in the SB era. There has been a lot of sorrow to go with those 6 seasons of joy.

A few of these things are reasonable assumptions though. While we will never know the internal intricacies of the organization, but it seems reasonable to think that Tomlin is a bit of a micromanager. When there are people in the media that say that there generally isn't interest for the DC position in Pittsburgh because Tomlin is the defacto DC, there is some merit to that. The "Tomlin doesn't know X's and O's" thing is not entirely true of course because he is a Tampa-2 guru, but that defense isn't the current meta in the NFL. So it's less that he doesn't know X's and O's (bc he does), it's that the X's and O's he knows are more obsolete in today's NFL when teams play a ton of Cover 4 man, cover 0 man, some cover 6, and cover 3 zone. Cover 2 zone is neither widely used nor widely successful in today's game. The game plan is just something that was inferred based on what players said post game. We came out planning on running the ball on Buffalo's normal 2 high safety man scheme and they consistently dropped a safety into the box. When asked what the gameplan was Najee said "run it", when asked how the Steelers countered the Bills changing it up, he said "run it anyways". We won't ever know the true gameplan, but when Harris says stuff like this it can be seen from the outside as a poor gameplan and refusal to counter the Bills trying something different.

We can make educated guesses based on the information available. None of it is a huge stretch.

I know you spent a whole bunch of time typing that out, but you might want to look into how much man to man we ran. I would also love to see a source where a member of the media(someone that actually covers the team) says nobody wants to be our dc because Tomlin is the de facto dc. As for the micromanaging part the players say differently. #whoopsie #Quite the stretch
