Wonder if they move on from him despite what Dulac thinks. I know they think very highly of Grady Brown, they might just promote him but I would hope they would take the opportunity to give a complete overhaul on both sides of the ball. However, as many people have assumed, Tomlin probably plays a large roll in designing the defense since that’s his side of the ball. A Grady Brown promotion would make sense in that regard. Or of course just retain Austin, it’s not like he did a bad job.

I would just love two big hires on both sides of the ball to come in and help right the ship and get this team over the hump.

is it just me or is it odd that his contract supposedly expired 2 months before the new league year? had they won in the playoffs their dc wouldn't actually have a job.

I'm still waiting for anyone to give a clear and concise answer to a simple question. Given all of the injuries on defense what exactly should have and could have Austin done differently?

Yeah like I said it’s not like he did a bad job but it is curious they let his contract expire. I know during the season there was a piece on Grady Brown and how he is an up and coming hot candidate. Maybe they dont want lose him and they plan to promote him. I don’t know.

I’m thinking the phrase “that contract has now run out” may have been more generic meaning he just doesn’t have a contract for the next nfl year

As architect of that infamous Bengal defense that allowed 3 straight 500+ yards games...

But the actual going on's is tough to figure.
    There's definitely room for improvement.

Taking everything into consideration I have hard time understanding the complaints and calls for his replacement

are we not allowed to whine and complain when our division rival is possibly going to the Superbowl and here the Steelers are watching again. And the injuries what's the saying (NEXT man up) And another thing if we cannot win a game without TJ Watt. Then we have some serious problems Because if that is what's always going to happen The Steelers better clone 10 TJ Watts so we can win every game.

The defence was really good when they were somewhat healthy. There were so many guys out and playing clearly hurt that it is hard to judge him too harshly on this season

I don’t think they will attract a top defensive coaching candidate because everyone knows Tomlin will be interfering

My quibbles with how Austin ran the defense are relatively minor. Keep him and fix the offense.

don't think it has anything to do with intelligence. More along the lines of paying attention, avoiding knee jerk reactions, and not typing out something that sounds good, but isn't based on fact

I would say there is room for improvement. Just taking in the example of when TJ is not on the field.
I've never fully trusted hm after Cincinnati, but then again, they weren't any good.
Maybe just look at the staff that helps him...
I'm certainly not going to pass out should they stick with him.

Somebody said they were looking at Wink Martindale. I cannot confirm. Doesn't seem like a good way to go to me.

Cant dismiss Wink's incredible history of high quality defenses. Is there anyone out there with more experience? However, at his age I would have concerns with his ability to maintain focus over the course of a 17 game season. I would also have concerns with his ability to communicate with younger players

The best thing the Steelers can do to improve the Defense is to create an Offense that doesn't suck something awful again.

Doesn't that beg the question would they have won those games if TJ was on the field? Did we lose to the bills because tj didn't play or because we turned the ball over multiple times and the bills didn't?

Just hope TJ stays healthy, I don’t like the results when he’s out. If that’s an indictment on Austin then so be it.
