    Steeler QB Comedy Show

    Starring:

    - Rooney, 3rd generation owner of Steelers who was taught his trade by his grand dad and dad from the minute he was born
    - Colbert, 20 year veteran of Steelers' organization, won 2 SBs
    - Tomlin, 15+ years of coaching the Steelers with 2 SB appearances and 1 SB win... and never a losing season

    Act 1 - Finding Ben's Successor
    - Sign Trubisky
    - Draft Pickett as the next franchise QB
    - Draft some random QB in the 7th round just for ****s and Giggles (S&Gs)
    - Keep Rudolph to compete for QB3 with S&Gs
    - Cut S&Gs

    Act 2 - First season
    - Keep Canada as the OC by blaming Ben's last season for the OC's bad results
    - Pretend there's a QB competition but only really give the weighty snaps to Trubisky
    - Start season with Trubisky and get shocked about his ineptness
    - Knee-jerk Pickett into the starting role at a very questionable time of the schedule
    - End the season with your #1 WR having exactly 0 TDs
    - The only Rudolph sighting was in north pole

    Act 3 - Second season
    - Start the year with exact same set of players and OC doing the exact same things as the last season
    - Somehow be surprised that history repeats itself and the offense is garbage
    - Fire the OC... but only because the team and fans and media are losing it
    - Pickett, who by now has shown he's not physically and mentally talented enough to be QB1, gets injured and is replaced by Trub, who by now has shown he's not physically and mentally talented enough to play in the NFL
    - Eventually give Rudolph, the pine rider, a chance because the WRs are about to lose it and walk the field during the game looking at fumbles and avoiding blocks
    - Let Rudolph do what he does best, throw long, and make the playoffs
    - Pull the reigns on Rudolph and get destroyed in playoffs

Act 4 - still to happen - my predications below
    - Let Rudolph walk
    - Cut Trub
    - Hand the QB1 job to Pickett
    - Sign some old geezer as backup
    - Draft another back up in round 5+

The Grand Dad and Dad Rooney are looking down from heaven and laughing (crying?) at the comedy show orchestrated by Rooney, Colbert and Tomlin.

How is that not a Brown-esque type of team management?

Hindsight 20/20, I would have rolled with Rudolph as the starter, and not have signed Trubisky or drafted Pickett. Signed a veteran back up on the cheap.

If Rudolph did well, maybe we got our qb … if he crashed and burned, we would have had a top 10 draft pick to draft our next QB.

    Might have been Stroud?

It's a bad look, but okay, they wanted to do that. Now it's over. Let's do the right thing going forward.
But the problem now, while the QB position is stabilized, now Tomlin is in his last year and a lame duck coach.

I don't see why Mason shold trust Tomlin after the last time Tomlin said it was going to be an open competition. Mason has been burned by Tomlin before, there is no reason for him to believe that Tomlin is not going to do the same thing he did 2 years ago.

I would love to know who Mason did his exit interviews with. I am assuming he had an exit interview with Mike Sullivan. Be funny if Mason and Mike pack their bags and go to another team together.

If Mason sticks around, he had better make sure that the New OC has complete control of the offense, so he doesn't get screwed over by Tomlin again. That is why I would like a former NFL head coach in this position, someone who knows what it is like to be in charge. Or an established former OC that knows how to run his side of the team.

I think what probably happens is Mason and Kenny will battle for the starting job and Mason will get fair treatment unlike some here think.

If I had to guess right now, would say Mason gets a contract negotiation and starts next season.

At least whoever loses that battle will be decent backup and have real chance win games if they play, unlike Mitch.

Result: We win enough games to occupy a wildcard spot and get knocked out in 1st round again.

I wonder if Khan will surprise us somehow (dump Mitch and find a veteran or draft a QB). He has to see the futility.

The 1st rd qb still on his rookie deal still listed as the 1st string qb will get the job next year. He'll be the worst starting qb in the division and bottom 1/4 in the league but he went to Pitt so YEAH!!!!!

Interesting off season for sure. Will Mason get offers? Will the Steelers do what it takes to keep him? We can all agree Trub the dud is a goner.

My Opinion: Going to camp Steelers will have Pickett as #1 (ugh), A later round QB draft pick and a journeyman QB. I think Mason will get a few offers in free agency and I'm not convinced the Steeler organization thinks as highly of him as some of the fans now do.

    Act 4:
    - trade a 2024 2nd and 2025 3rd for Justin Fields
    - bring in a college OC whose system relies heavily on QB RPOs
    - 90% of the fan base freaks out
    - @S.T.D@S.T.D is so stressed that he reverts back 2 using numbers 4 letters in his posts.

I have seen Justin Fields play. He is exactly Trubisky. He will make some great throws but miss simple outs. Also doesn't want to stand and take hits. It will be a bad decision and bring on years of futility. If he was great, Chicago wouldn't be parting with him.

I agree totally with your Act IV. I don't think Tomlin wants a QB controversy so Rudolph will be allowed to sign with another team without a counter offer. Pickett will be the starter next season with someone like Jacoby Brissett or Tyrod Taylor as the backup. Again I agree the 3rd team QB will be a rookie drafted in the last couple of rounds. I think you nailed it with your post.

To me, Canada was the biggest issue. No way any young QB was going to develop under that guy. His offense failed at LSU and here. Not saying we should have kept Haley, but I bet KP would have been better off behind Mason as QB1 and Haley as the OC. Something like that set up would have had a higher ceiling for a young QB.

Tomlin said in his presser today that Mason’s a free agent and ‘conversations’ with him will continue. He was complementary towards Mason today.

    this was well done, BRAVO.

Homers will be homers here, we know who they are

I am tired of the miserable middle but that is exactly where we will be staying, maybe for the rest of the decade (dare I say longer?)

    I've seen worse:

    Replacing Terry Bradshaw...

1980 Chuck Noll takes Mark Malone in round 1 (Bradshaw would play for 4 more seasons)
1986 Chuck Noll takes Bubby Brister in round 3
1987 Chuck Noll signs Steve Bono
1988 Chuck Noll signs former 1st round pick Todd Blackledge. This was also the year the local media wanted Chuck Noll fired
1990 Chuck Noll takes Neil O'Donnell in round 3
1993 Bill Cowher signs Mike Tomczak
1994 Bill Cowher takes Jim Miller in round 6
1995 Bill Cowher takes Kordell Stewart in round 2
1998 Bill Cowher signs Pete Gonzalez
1999 Bill Cowher signs Anthony Wright
2000 Bill Cowher signs Kent Graham
2000 Bill Cowher takes Tee Maratin in round 5
2001 Bill Cowher signs Tommy Maddox
2002 Bill Cowher signs Charlie Batch
2003 Bill Cowher takes Brian St. Pierre in round 6
2004 Bill Cower takes Ben Roethlisberger in round 1 (It's important to note that he wanted a tackle but said he would take one of the big 3 if they fell but none were worth trading up for).

They did run a few "pilot" episodes prior to act 1 by pretending to draft backups and getting some other undrafted and over drafted goobers. Namely drafting Dobbs, kicking Landry Jones to the curb (good call), trading Dobbs, getting him back on the team, Rudolph, Duck, Paxton Lynch. This comedy isn't even funny. More like a tragedy that continues to unfold at the hands of inept and clueless ownership.

Thanks for that. I`m reminded of how long it took for our management to value the QB position. They should know by now.

Maddox, O'Donnell, Stewart, Brister, Malone won playoff games. Something Steelers can't seem to do now. Batch was a good backup. So was Leftwich who was left off the list.

I was only accounting for the QB's they went through until they got Ben. Leftwhich was in 2008 and 2010.
