20,.5 million in dead money and only $790,000 savings by cutting Fitzpatrick. Maybe want to do a little research before you post next time?

Wouldn’t they need to give Heyward an extension to make that deal work? I thought 2024 was his last year under contract?
I’d love to see Cam stick around for a while, just not at the Cap hit he has now.

Watt isn't going anywhere and he is probably too good to ask him to restructure. That team is lucky to reach seven wins without him, much less make the playoffs. If not for a freak injury from a collision with Adams in Week 18, he would have given them the opportunity to be at least competitive with the Bills.

There is a lot of work to do and I'm not sure they can pull it all off in one offseason.

They have Fitzpatrick under contract for three more years. Unless they try to save some on the cap with a restructure or extension, they aren't doing anything with his contract for a while.

I cannot imagine a team taking on a $30 cap hit, but one that thinks they are a player like him short of a Super Bowl might.. then restructure his contract.
But to your point, Pittsburgh will have to be agreeable.
I agree, most likely is not going to happen.

I was thinking in a situation where they find a team maybe one guy away from a serious run and he wanted he chance at a ring. Otherwise you don't kick him to the curb but you go the route of restructuring but he has to be flexible based on father time catching up.

From this list remove Heyward and Add Petersen. Heyward is a solid stalwart in the Locker room. He is also a force on the line when not dealing with injury’s.

First Rd OC….. 2nd rd DL

This team was in desperate need of leaders cutting cam only makes problem worse. Cam still can play let him leave on his terms. DJ is a great wr if he can keep his heart in it, cutting him without finding a even or better replacement hurts the team. I know Pickens can be a #1 for team but also could be the next Burress or AB. The rest of list goodbye

I think your points are valid. For me cutting Robinson would be easy, despite his low production this year seems to be a good locker room guy, but not at that price. I'll let others do the math, but if you find a way to keep him at far less than he is making now, at least his hands seem good lol.

You could cut him, let him test the market and come back if he likes it in Pittsburgh and doesn’t get a better offer. He is dependable and is a good run blocker too. I don’t think either side expected him to be playing in that contract in 2024 when they traded for him.

You could also pick up someone like Juju for peanuts to do the same job, he is almost certainly going to get cut by the Pats

Keep Johnson. Add Trubisky and Peterson to the list.

Heyward is about done, so ok. Use draft to help fill his shoes.

Peterson saves you 6.8 million if cut before June 1.
    Heyward is 16 million.

Mitch it’s just under $3 million savings if we cut him. Plus over 4 million and dead cap space. Almost not worth it from a financial standpoint. Except for the fact that he sucks, so it makes a little easier

It seemed like Cowher had a lot of great trick plays in the regular season and very few in the post season. I think Neil O’Donnell made him gun shy when Ben was a rookie.

I was frustrated at times with Cowher but Tomlin is 1,000 times more frustrating

Good question. Technically of course it would be an extension, since his current deal indeed ends after 2024, but void years carry no base salary. They're purely for accounting purposes to act as placeholders and stretch bonus prorations out over the length of the contract.

As for consent, however, I looked a couple things up and, base salary or not, adding them to Cam's would still be considered a maximum (as opposed to simple) restructure, and would thus involve his consent (which I'm sure he'd give). I thought I'd read a case of another team just adding the void years onto the end of the player's contract last offseason in a simple restructure, but can't find it now. Anyway, I obviously misread something in the details.

At any rate, the bottom line is that they should be able to keep him in next season at a cap expense of between $12M and $14M, depending on the amount of base salary they want to convert and for how long. They could use up to four void years, but I don't think they need that, plus it increases the dead money once he retires.

Yes he would be fine in the Robinson role as the #3 target and a blocker on run downs but I just looked at the Pats cap sheet and they can’t really cut him until 2025. I’ll bet they would like that contract back
