I expect us to approach the draft as we always have. If we see a Qb drop in the first round and we can jump up a couple spots I could see us doing that. Or just waiting to see who's available when we pick. If by chance the best player on our board is a QB , I can see us drafting them. That's a highly unlikely scenario but it could happen. I think the more likely pick is an ILB, DE, or Safety.

It will be interesting to see if Omar's approach to FA is different . He was aggressive in FA last offseason. Maybe he is again. The ONLY reason to keep Mason IMO is if we keep the same offense. Mason knows the current offense and coaches. He was able to run that offense better than anyone prior. Was it great? No not good enough IMO to keep the offense in tact. This offense needs an overhaul and we need veteran coaches with a proven track record to take over this offense. I don't see how else you change the culture . In the case of a new OC with a new system...he will want a QB that knows his offense. It will be Kenny, a FA signing, and maybe a draft pick? Or maybe Mason if he can't get any attention. I suspect Mason will get offers. Why would he stay if we are installing a new system?

I want to see Mason (or whoever) with a competent HC. Incompetence breeds incompetence

100% correct. The only question now is whether, just like with Ben, they want to give it one more shot at it with Mike Tomlin, and whether for that one time win now mode in Tomlin's last contract year they will bring in Russ Wilson to complement the run and defense and give it a shot.
Or, whether they will enter a new window with Mason and give him the reins for a few years.

They will not give anything to anyone

If Mason is here he will have a chance to compete with whomever else is there

Disagree. The competition is over, and the clear winner is Mason Rudolph, and it is not even close. The gap is enormous, Mason is Dak Prescott and Kenny is Zach Wilson. Competition has taken place and it is over.

agreed, except that preseason competition sucks.

the team (offense) rallied around and performed much better with Mason. They actually SCORED TD's!!!

Now - correlation is not 100% causation.

as time went on , Canada was more removed.

But Mason clearly sees the game and field much better at this point, Yr. 6 for him and Yr. 2 for Kenny

the BIG Q's are: Does Mason WANT to be here, and will another team offer him a GREAT offer to take him

There were quite a few players "not available"
I don't have the list but 8-10 by my account.

They 'aint touching Russell Wilson, why would anyone at this point?

I don't think it matters who is at QB with the same regime in place, with the same tired ideas and the same laughable grade OC/DC positional coaching hires, repeating the same failed strategies.

When I said "He lost his job" I meant this season, which he did, he was healthy, and they stuck with MR anyway. I think they'll go in with MR, as psuedo #1, and let KP comepte and they'll draft a guy.

Really though this teams problems have much deeper and longer roots which need to be dug out before we can progress, who is at QB is quite secondary to that.

I didn't see where anyone said where the other Captain, Miles Killebrew was there or not?

And I guess Najee lost his Captainship in 2023. I thought I saw a picture of him as a captain, maybe 2022?

    Disagree with everything.
Wilson plays as well as Baker, Goff, Love. he had a good years. And he is champ, and 12-year starter.
It matters very much who the QB is.
They will not draft a QB to "compete" unless the #1 QB in the draft Jayden Daniels drops, and he will not compete for the starting job, there are no competitions in camp for starting QB job.
No, this teams' problems start and end with QB spot, whichhas been Kenny Pickett era.

But he’s a captain. Might mean nothing but just seems odd to me.

You do realize they were a No. 7 seed playing on the road against a No. 2 seed, right? This isn't like 2017, when they were favorites and dug themselves too big a hole early in the game against the Jaguars. This was a team with an injury-plagued defense and a third-string quarterback. Yes, the offensive game plan was way too conservative and they were sloppy, but it's not as if that result was an upset.

He was a captain who hadn't played in over a month. Was Trubisky available that same day last year?

Yeah, Harris lost his, they said it was just more about Kenny being the QB and franchise guy which they didn’t have the year before. I don’t know, seemed kind of odd. There were co-captains on offense when Ben also wore the C.

I thought taking it from Harris was odd. He and Trubisky were both captains last year, which is why I asked if Trubisky was available to the media at the end of last season.

I get that, but to have them come out flat once again in a playoff game is unacceptable. The offense looked completely lost and disorganized, same goes for the defense. The game was over once it was 21-0. I'll give them credit for getting back into the game, but changing the secondary when they were playing so well as a unit was just dumb. That was just one of many mistakes they made, can't have that if you want to be competitive

The defense was lost and disorganized. That was clear on the first two touchdowns. I doubt they will move on from Austin, but that was a prime example of why they probably should replace him. I know injuries forced them to adapt quite a bit, but they looked lost on defense too many times this season.

The offense wasn't lost. It was insanely conservative, abandoning the approach that had worked for three weeks since Rudolph took over.

I was shocked and upset by the ultra conservative play calling. I was wondering if Canada was calling the game from his basement. I know the weather wasn't the greatest, but they should've tried to pull out all the stops on offense. At least go down swinging
