This is interesting. Did Tomlin tell him he isn’t the starter next season? Or that there will be a real open competition in camp?

If true, I’m sure Tomlin will discuss it in his season ending presser.

Maybe Kenny is depressed Tomlin is coming back. Kenny’s career has been destroyed so far and will get worst next year.

Tomlin set the example, don’t like your situation, just walk away.

I wonder if the Steelers, quietly, told Kenny not to make himself available. What good could have come out of anything that would have been said? The media would have ran with even the smallest of negative comments. The Steelers also may have wanted to spare Kenny the embarrament of having to stand there and answer question after question about being benched.

I wouldn't read anything into next year based off of this.

Didn't we learn not to assume things based on these days after the whole thing with Watt a few years ago?

    No

Yes if he had his exit end of year interview yet but I doubt that happened

I want to see Kenny given a fair chance with a new OC. If he's not given that chance I'll be finding better things to do on Sundays.

Kenny is under contract for next year and Mason is not.

Just like when they asked Mason about being the Starting QB going into the offseason a few years ago, and he said "I guess I am the starter as I am the only guy under contract". Or something like that. Mason always was able to pull something funny when asked a stupid question.

Forget about Kenny with Mike T and his recent pathetic post season record we already know at least next year is a complete waste of time.

For sure. I just want to see Kenny with a competent OC. If he's not the guy, I can live with it. And if they give up on him this quickly, I'm almost as PO about the guys they passed on to acquire him. I have little hope for the future and I'd rather to be just a Clairton Bears fan at this point.

Well, they could've asked him again if he's learned anything by watching Rudolph from the sidelines, but I'm sure his answer would still be "no"

What other team did the backup QB not being available for media make the news?

Until Mason is under contract or they pick up another QB via FA or the draft, there’s nothing to discuss. They may want to give Mason the opportunity, but could lose him in a business decision. What if the Jets overpay him?

It’s looking very likely that Kenny isn’t it. I assume he will get a chance to compete in camp but from everything we have seen he’s a career backup/3rd string level QB.

The Jets still have Rodgers. They aren't overpaying for another quarterback. If anything, they might go after a veteran backup like Taylor, not a guy like Rudolph who is probably going to look for at least an opportunity to start.

Everybody's job is in jeopardy. It's the way the media works to sell clicks.
Fans are mad about the loss, and they are ripe for the picking.

I don't think it is correct to say 'Benched' - he had surgery and Mason was playing well.
Yes, he got cleared, but he wasn't 100%.
But call it as you will. It doesn't make any difference on price of tea in China.

    Two QB are under contract.
    Kenny Pickett and Mitch Trubisky.
The latter of which, I'd be willing to pay for his bus ticket out of town.

There are 2 and more likely 3 QB's coming to town this offseason, depending on what they do with Mason.

A lot of noise about Justin Fields is out there.
Chicago has the number 1 pick so it is easy.
His cap numbers aren't awful, not sure what they expect in a trade.
As a GM, I would steer clear of that mess and I certainly would not trade TJ for Fields.

At 20th pick in the draft, they are probably in range of maybe Nix, McCarthy, Pratt, Slovis depending on how the early picks go.
    I'd hate to trade up unless I traded a player(s) for a pick(s)

Capwise, we are currently projected over the cap... so there's a little trouble there.

Our Front Office has its hands full for sure.

Kenny has always struck me as being pretty affable. I just found it interesting he wouldn’t make himself available. Media wont get a chance to talk to him again until OTA’s.

Tomlin sitting what was supposedly the future of the team for the “hot hand” always seemed a little off to me. You don’t rob your starting QB of valuable playoff experience like that. I’m starting to feel like they are going to go in a different direction at QB, whether that’s Rudolph, a trade for Fields or a draft pick, I don’t know.

If his career is destroyed, he did it to himself.
Nobody told him to throw checkdowns every play if they didn't tell Mason to do it.

He has seen how Mason has been mishandled.

He's probably feeling the sting of watching the #3 come in and turn this offense into something.

I do believe that he has been mishandled. Stay close to the vest, we play it conservative.

Then he watches Mason throw it at will and have success.

Maybe he is looking for a trade?

Tomlins conservative approach was thrown out the window when his @ss was backed into a corner. Mason saved his BS winning streak. They were even fortunate getting to play in the Wild Card. It took a losing scenario which could have gone South to get there. They didn't earn it, they backed into it. And again got shelled.

And our 1st round QB watched from the sidelines ready to go.

They don't have a QB controversy, They now have a QB problem. Not good. Not good at all...

I was thinking the same thing.

I would be very surprised if the Steelers were moving on from Pickett what with the issues at OC.

I’m fine with Pickett getting another chance, especially because we invested a 1st in him. I’d like to see what a new OC can do with him.

I can’t say I understand the perspective that he was mishandled though. When Rudolph came in, he connected on some of the occasional deep shots that Kenny couldn’t.

We did play conservatively, but Pickett still missed throws or reads each game. Not only that, he has developed a propensity for not stepping up in the pocket and rolling left into pressure.

Even a talented young star would still show flashes in a conservative offense.
