So where are possible landing spots for Rudolph?

I can't see him signing a contract with the Steelers not after how Tomlin's treated him and had him in his doghouse. Rudolph will obviously want to sign with a team that will give him a chance to compete for the starting QB spot and that eliminates a lot of teams.

Off the top of my head that eliminates: Miami, Buffalo, the Jets, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Baltimore, Kansas City, the Chargers, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Philadelphia, Detroit, Green Bay, the Rams, Tampa Bay, New Orleans, and San Francisco.

So that leaves New England, Las Vegas, Denver, Dallas, Washington, the Giants, Chicago, Minnesota, Seattle, Arizona, Atlanta and Carolina. Some of their QBs will be free agents and/or perhaps their team wasn't thrilled with their QB play and wanting to make a change.

So where might Rudolph go to?

I don’t see him garnering a whole lot of interest. Not a single team showed anything before.

Your elimination list is fine. I would add Dallas, Carolina, and Seattle to teams that aren't going to want Rudolph.

LV, Denver, Wash, Giants, Minny, AZ, Atl and Chicago are the only "open" starting spots.

Justin Fields, Kirk Cousins, and Russell Wilson are all going to land somewhere as a starter before Rudolph will. Jake Browning might have a shot too, but is probably in a similar boat to Rudy. There are also potentially 6 QB's that will go in round 1/early 2 this year too (Williams, Maye, Daniels, Penix, McCarthy, Nix) and at the ages they are (and where they will get drafted to) means that most of them will be day 1 starters.

That leaves 8 open spots with 10 potential starting QB's ahead of Rudolph. The only place he has a real shot of being the starter or competing for it is probably Pittsburgh. Obviously it only takes one team to want to take a shot on him to change this, but I don't think with his small sample size that it is truly going to make him a starter elsewhere. We should be able to retain him with the money we save from cutting Mitch (5.25 mil) if we wanted.

Yeah, but he just put together awesome four games to end the season, QB1 games, at a very competitive tough time of the year. Teams need good QB play.

Rudolph should be looking for a system that values the classic pocket passer with a Vertical passing game. The Steelers of old, when Ben wasn't throwing the ball in under 2 seconds.

Does he sign before or after the draft? So many new Head coaches in the league will be wanting to completely change their system.

Denver, wherever Belichek lands and Las Vegas. Personally, I think Denver would be a good fit for him. I can see him vibing well with Sean Peyton. He may surprise us and sign back with Steelers knowing the fans are behind him and Pickett not only sucks, but is fragile.

I think only 12 starters made it through the season? Worst case scenario for Mason, quality backups are going to be on everyone's mind next year.

The Patriots will probably draft a QB, sign a free agent, cut Zappe, and keep Jones at 3rd string if they can't trade him. Good chance to start

If the Broncos move off Wilson, they will probably need to bargain shop because of cap issues. Good chance at starting.

Tennessee will move on from Tannehill and need a bridge starter or solid backup.

The Jets backups are terrible, but I doubt he'd go play behind Rogers unless the money was good.

Atlanta is listless at QB and Bellichick supposedly had him on his draft board.

I mean Baker was on his way out of the league, and some so so play with the Rams got him a starting job again. Mason led the league in completion percentage and yards per play when he was starting. He's going to get interest.

I agree. He won't get much interest. he'll sign a 1-yr, $3.5 million contract somewhere, probably against his wishes back with the steelers.

Doesn't Tennessee have that rookie QB, that made all Steeler fans green with envy on seeing what a real NFL QB's deep spirals should look like. Will Levis looked like he is the future for Tennesse.

I would like Seattle as a possible Job opening for a starting QB, depending on who they bring in to be OC.

Green Bay moved on from Rodgers and all his money, so Maybe Denver can eat the 85 million in dead cap money for the next 2 years? Draft a cheap QB and then sign a cheap Free Agent.

New England: I have not heard what they are doing for OC yet?

I think Mason is more mobile than people give him credit for. He's done a decent job at running for 1st downs when need be. He's definitely no Josh Allen or LJ in that regard though :lolol:

Tom Brady did pretty well, so did Manning as a classic pocket passer. It’s incredibly hard to be accurate when you are moving and the target is moving. You also tend to get injured when you are running around. Running qb are overrated based upon Super Bowl results this century. I predict Mahomes will run less in future in order to protect his body. Josh Allen is one Terrell Suggs type hit to have second thoughts too. If you want to run, there are running backs for that.

He'll go somewhere on a backup deal. Steelers might keep him around but right now he probably imagines himself signing somewhere that he'll get respect. It's a nice notion but FA will need to be the event that shows him the truth.

I guess the question is who would overpay for Rudloph? If he is cheap enough the Steelers will just resign him.

    good work.

should run thru the NFC also.

    why not Indy? curious.
    maybe Raiders?

    why not Jets?

I think he can start for ~ 10-12 teams.

Including HERE, with the right players and COACHING around him, OBV.

i still wish someone would have knocked Allne's block off, taken the penalty and ejection, and gotten on with it! circa 1976!

pocket passing is not gone. and Mason can move a little.

Honestly the best landing spot for him is probably back in Pittsburgh. He should have a good chance of winning the starting job and even if he doesn’t he will be back on the field before long because Pickett will be hurt.

If he really wants a starting job Pittsburgh probably his best bet. Given a fair chance I could see him beating Pickett. Of course I'll be hoping for a hidden gem in the draft.

Washington will be once again looking for a Vet. They might keep Brissett

Rudolph is rated mid range in the QB FA...
Pittsburgh might keep him though it goes against the grain but they will need a good backup at a good price.
But again, it all goes along with who they get as an OC.
If they get a good of course the priorities are on Pickett, a 1st is invested there. Only the keyboard warriors are writing him off.
In that scenario, with a good OC, you want a Vet that plays like Kenny (mobile) and install a system you don't have to change up mid game should an injury happen regardless of who starts. (Tyrod comes to mind).
But it is all in the tea leaves till March.
