That fad has been en vogue for nearly 7 years now and getting more and more popular. Tomlin has gotten more latitude than any other HC I can recall with his record of postseason underperformance.

Tomlin showed a total lack of class with his response. It's pretty disappointing behavior from the face of our organization. But not surprising honestly. Then again, I'm surprised he didn't have some cliche line already loaded for a question he KNEW he was going to get. The fact he knew he was going to get that question and this was his reaction makes it even more disappointing because it wasn't a reaction, it was planned.

This will be a rough offseason.
In Dallas Mike Holmgren's ***Edit: McCarthy - My bad**** job is in Question after 3 playoff seasons.

It may well be coming to an end.
It may also be justified. (sounds like Mike McCarthy may be out... maybe, for same)
So, it remains to be seen.
I prefer the reasons be thought out as some have done rather than the typical 'he's a doo-doo head' (exaggerated to make a point) which I've seen a lot of in places.
My stance remains: 17 years is an eternity in the NFL. At some point, you have to change it up.

I have been told that the press was told he would not address those beforehand. Ms Boyd just did her usual BS.
I might have preferred the Bill Belichick approach and tore her a new one.
She registers Madden level with me.

Rumors abound as the vultures circle the kill.
Everyone wants to be the first to break 'Tomlin Exits Pittsburgh.'
There's lots of blood in the water.

This is why context matters. The reporter was looking for a sound bite or something to get her noticed.

If that's true, and I was a reporter, I would ignore it too. I think we would have heard from other reporters if they had been told certain questions were out of bounds as if this was some Hollywood fluff interview or a Putin or Biden press conference.

Harris hit on a point I like.
He is alluding to a point where the 'building is a center of excellence' - in other words you walk in a feel the Championship culture.
That atmosphere is created from the employees.

Maybe Tomlin is too lax on his guys.
And those guys are not holding each other accountable. Too many doing their own thing.

I could see Mike Tomlin taking a year off to assess his next path.
A lot of teams want him. He's also well enough off he can do whatever he wants.
I kind of sense this is it. (Strictly conjecture on my part.)

What would you hear from other reporters? If the press briefings are structured, the reporters would understand it’s just part of the business.

I could easily see where there are some ground rules for the press. Especially so at a post-game news conference, which is supposed to be about the game that was just played.

    Well, there is that.
I prefer to maintain some sense of professional respect.
To me, I'm going to hold it till his exit interview. That would be expected at that time.

There's a big difference when you are talking to say, Jim Zorn as opposed to Mike Tomlin.
At the same time, everybody loves a trainwreck and the bigger the name... so it is fair these days. :)

I thought we’d win with superior coaching. Tomlin calling time out with 2 seconds left in the half was brilliant and the key to victory.

Eh, for as critical of Tomlin as I have been, I don't see a huge reason to criticize him here. It was a weak question to ask immediately after a playoff loss. Talk about the game, don't go fishing for headlines.

People seem to have loved Ditka and Parcells when they would go off on reporters who asked stupid questions. Tomlin just walks away and he’s the bad guy?

no one said he was a bad guy. I just found it interesting that as far as I can remember that's the first time he walked out of a press conference. It is an unusual response from him

    7 years of nothing.

That's an issue of players are not developed enough or that he just no longer is a good coach.

Who else would know he was thinking of taking a year off but him?
He told someone and it got out or he leaked it.
He could have kept it to himself and then addressed it today , you know, the day AFTER the season like all other coaching decisions.

Part of Tomlin's job responsibilities include being a good ambassador for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He failed miserably by doing this. I have no hope for this team until he is gone.

Good luck to Mt if he does go to another team. Being a middling team that has no real shot to win a playoff game will get you thrown out the door like McCarthy is about to be or Seattle .
