The D let up when Allen slowed down & faked to slide, reason he was not tackled.
That should not be allowed. The D didn't want a flag and it cost us a TD. NFL need to look at this sliding rule.

Yes, any posturing that looks like a slide is beginning should be down right there.

I really think they already have that rule on the book. Anytime a QB shows the appearance of giving up, he’s considered down.

IIRC Manning was called for it in a playoff game against the Steelers. He threw a completion off of it!

I think they need to tweak it though to be like the college rule that they put in because of Pickett!

He definitely showed a slide posture and the halftime analysts called it while saying what a great play it was. No one is saying that now though except ex defensive players.

it should be a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty.. it should be similar to the rule where if you fair catch a punt and start running, it's a penalty. the league would rather protect QBs than punt returners though, so it would never happen.

It is a rule but the rule is that's where the ball is spotted so there's no penalty

Allen sliding between the tackles at the line of scrimmage is BS also. He runs like a fullback so Myles Jack has to bring force. Then last second Allen slides and the defender is supposed to suddenly not touch him. Jack had already started to lunge at Allen. In needs to be reviewable at the least. Just like roughing the passer should get reviewed. Too many get called when they are barely touched

I'd be good if the refs don't call a lot of penalties all year but these playoffs proved how inconsistent the refs are. They've been terrible all year.

I think the other aspect that should be considered is if it was a designed run.

If you are going to keep the ball on a designed run and take it up the middle then there shouldn’t be extra protections afforded the QB.

Honestly, I think Jack’s penalty was legit in the context of the rule. Hard to hold up, but he didn’t show any sign of it until after he hit Allen and was like “oh sh!t!”

It's like kazee situation.... what's a defense to do? Get a penalty or let him get 6?

Kazee had Allen dead to rights on his run, but chose to swat the ball instead of actually making a hard hit on the QB....which was a terrible choice by him, I'm sure aided in his head cause of suspensions and fines ...Defenses are unfortunately at a disadvantage..

When I first saw it I thought he was pulling up to go out of bounds but it is hard to gauge intent; looks similar to Kenny's though

It used to be that if a WB ran down the middle like that you made him pay and it was worth the 15 yards if you got hit with a penalty.

This is why so many QB’s get drilled when sliding.

That doesn’t look like a fake slide to me. There was no lean down. He came to a dead stop and then ran again.

What KP did in college was an actual lean like he was going to slide then changed direction, I don’t see that with Allen.

For the QB to give himself up he actually has to start to go down, not just stop and stand there.

It's because he's a QB he slipped through that loop hole knowing the D afraid to touch him fearing penalty in that situation

D needs to plow him next year if we see them and make him not want to run. We played two hand tag even when he was not getting ready with his fake slide. We had no answer last drive or first 3.

I don't know that he was 'fake sliding' it just seemed to be a rerouting of himself.
    Maybe.
It probably should be a penalty though for all the reasons mentioned.

He sort of stopped like he was going to slide, but then saw the no Steelers D were really closing in and decided to run.

Was it a fake slide? Not really, but I think the D assumed he was going to slide. I don't know if it should be a penalty, as I think a real fake slide should be, but maybe at that point the play should be considered dead.
