Yea steelers did a little image building there. I liked rainey but his speed was all the he had going for him. He's a good return guy but he is too easily taken down. I dont think he turned into what the steelers thought he would. With Redman, dwyer, and batch, and still as of now medenhall, we can afford to lose rainey.

the 2013 campaign is already getting off to a great start. There is no sense taking about Rainey anymore since he's not a steeler.

Who cares? He was useless on the field... sorry to be so mean. Not useless, ineffective!

after an 8-8 season, I think the Rooney's are not going to be as forgiving when this stuff happens. This was a quick decision. Notice given.

Steelers must be reading this message board. At least wait til it's proven that he did what he's been accused of. Or maybe Rainey admited to the Steelers that he was guilty.

Sad. Sad that Rainey couldn't get it together given the opportunity he had in Pittsburgh. Maybe he will get another opportunity in Miami with the other Pouncey.

As far as the impact to the Steelers, I don't know they will miss him all that much. They need to draft a RB, though Rainey would never have been starter material. They'll need to draft a speedy WR for KR, maybe to work themselves into the starting lineup.

I never knew about this one...
He was arrested Sept. 14, 2010, while at the University of Florida after sending a threatening text
message to his on-again, off-again girlfriend that read: "Time to Die B----- u and ur???" Rainey was charged with felony aggravated stalking.-espn NFL report 01/10/13

Has nothing to do with an 8-8 season and everything to do with Raineys value to the team. He was a smidget who never really contributed anything of any value to the team and was easily dispensable. Do you think they would have been so quick to pull the trigger had it been Roethlisberger, or Polamalu, or Taylor, or Brown, or Pouncey, or etc etc etc?

It was an easy call and a great PR move. Man of little value to team beats a woman...release him. Cedric Wilson part deux.

maybe not as quick, but I think they are getting tired of this crap. Easier to ignore when your playing winning ball.

I said from day 1 he appeared to be a waste of a roster spot, guess now it's official.

Timing, right after a dismal season
Value, doesn't look like he would have ever been very good.
History, he's done this before, I know Moo had a prior incident too but people really looked down upon beating women, especially old school people like the Steelers.
Putting others on notice, bs won't be tolerated anymore. Could have simply been the last straw.

I think mostly though, value to the team.

    This was my thinking.

He wasn't great...he shined in preseason and had some decent returns here and there...but didnt have but a couple ok plays on O...he can easily be replaced...even though I had high hopes for him.

I agree. The problem with Rainey was he needed a few more splash plays to make him less... replaceable.

(Though obviously the more significant problem was that he was hitting women.)

Well, if we're talking about hurting woman, Tamu sent a woman to the hospital who was shaken up during his drunken bumper car rampage. I guess it's a good thing he didn't resist arrest scuffling with four woman cops or he'd be gone
