Is this the standard where Noll went 12 years without a trip to the SB?
Or the standard where Cowher went 13 years with only 1 trip to the SB? (And didn't win it, even though he got there with "Noll's players".)

No harm in setting "Super Bowl or bust" as an optimistic goal, but expecting it as a standard is unreasonable.

I pull the pin, I think sorta all those that think we should keep Tomlin and seem almost perplexed that others want to move on from him. We haven't done anything but one and done in a long time. So I assume those folks are ok with the fact we are competitive every year and have a shot to make playoffs but haven't advanced beyond one and one. Otherwise why are they so against moving on from this guy. The answer of "it might be worse" seems paralyzing to me to not make a move hoping to get further than one and done.

I think that year we lost to Denver and Peyton Manning was a missed opportunity for a SB.

Injuries sort of derailed that game, but I thought we were the better team.

I thought that was one of Mike Ts best performances. He had a solid gameplan and execution until the late fumbles.

Nobody ever heard that because it’s not true

Cowher made it clear why he retired

I only wish that I could've came up with a clever retort like that, but it pretty much sums up what I was thinking

No. He has had very poor game plans, an inability to make or have any preparations for half time adjustments, epically bad coaching hires and a laughable challenge record. Let’s just start there.

I think its funny everyone trying blaming Ben, or Tomlin.
Everyone blaming Ben.....go look at not just his stats in the playoffs....go look at P. Manning , and many other HOF Qb playoff stats....they are almost identical.

Winner. A lot keep saying, but , but we had the killer bs.....Yet another Playoff game that....again we didn't have the so called killer bs. We had Ben, and a bunch of 2nd stringers, and 3rd stringers at rb

What the heck are you talking about? I could've coached that Browns team to a victory if my team won the turnover ratio 5-0, let me guess that's on coaching too .

Ben played pretty good in that game IIRC, they seemed to have momentum until that scrub RB Toussaint fumbled.

I've been saying that for a while.
On paper, its a mismatch (#1 seed vs #6 seed), but despite Denver having the top passing defense (also #4 in points and top in total yards), on that day Ben shredded them (24/37 for 339 yards).
This was despite being questionable on the injury report, a week after Burfict drove his knee into Ben's throwing shoulder (while away from the action).

In some alternative dimension, the Steelers go to Denver with a full healthy squad, instead of having their top 2 RBs, best WR, and starting center out with injuries.
The Steelers were still leading with 3:00 left in the game. A tiny improvement in offense would have made all the difference.

It’s been talked about several times over the past few months locally while discussing Tomlin.

    Use common sense….from 2007

“The question is, if the Steelers had been willing to pay more money, would their relationship with Cowher have lasted longer?

Contract extension talks broke off at the start of training camp and apparently never resumed after the Steelers determined Cowher wanted to be paid an elite-level salary -- perhaps more than twice his current $4 million-plus.”

Cowher can claim family all he wants….no reason to trust him. In the end, it’s almost always about money.
