For someone who understands NFL contract stuff better than I do.....lol

For next season, what does it take to drop Trubisky and what will it cost the team if they can't find another team that will pick him up? Feel free to talk to a 4th grader on your explanation.....lol

I’ll start and someone who knows what they are talking about can sweep up behind me

He has almost $16 M in cap hit if he plays 2024 and 2025

If they cut him he has a dead cap hit of $4.6M next year

He has a $1 million roster bonus due in March 2024, so you know the when will be before his roster bonus is due.

    Specially March 13 at 4pm

Although I would not be surprised to see them pay the bonus

Mason is going to test FA

I can’t see them cutting Mitch and deciding only having 1 quarterback and that one is Kenny is ok

And then hoping someone falls in their lap

Unless they can come to an agreement with someone else in the 2 days prior

If they designate post June 1 they can spread the dead cap hit out $2.3m each 2024+2025. They save $5m 2024 and $6 million 2025.

I have a feeling Mason will want to test market, but Mitch cannot be back on this team next year. That's way too much for what he does not bring to the table.

Sadly if Mason doesn't return, than we will stick with mitch.

    Unless Tomlin is not here.

I don't think there's any way they can keep him despite the QB situation.

You're paying him way too much for a back-up role. IIRC he already took a pay cut, but that's not going to save him this year. He gets cut or traded. Most Likely a post June 1st designation.

We'll see if/when they finish the season, the roster moves on reserve future contracts. There's going to be some RFAs sitting there for them to choose from.

There are some FA QBs that are cheaper that can come in and win some games.

I just wonder if Trubisky will even be in the NFL next year?

take the hit regardless. Uncle Mitch and his bed soiling ways gotta go. I agree #2 and his agent got the rotary greased up and business will be boomin hahahaha

hate to see the kid go but I don’t think they’re gonna beat someone’s offer even if he somehow by chance drove the 7th caddie into the case and parked it forever more.

don’t know he feels like a true homie here

Mitch doesn't deserve to be here 1 more second, he should hit the road with Matt Canada

There aren't so many good QB's in this league that someone like Trubisky wont last as a back up in some capacity. Matt Barkley is still in the league after 10 years.... there just isn't that much talent in the league at the position.

Now, will he be back with us? No. I think Mason will test FA, but unless he does some damage in the playoffs I still have serious doubts that his market is going to be aggressive in the offseason. I get that it only takes one team to want him, but I can't imagine his price tag being that high. We just had him on a league minimum deal and 3 games wont get him a top tier back up contract. Obviously a huge playoff run could change that, but as it stands now he should be able to be afforded simply with the money saved by cutting Trubisky

I was thinking the same thing, somebody will sign him at some point next season as an emergency QB. Alex Van Pelt was in the league for 10 years, so there's a good chance Mitch will catch on with someone at some point next year. But yeah, it won't be with us, at least I hope not

He will probably be a #2, at worst a #3 somewhere. If Nathan Peterman can keep collecting NFL checks, so can Mitch haha

I don't see too many scenarios that keep Mitch around next season. We save too much money cutting him. That money could easily pay Mason (or another decent back up option's) salary for 2024.

That's the thing, even if they get to the big one, he's gone, just like O'Donnell. There's no way he goes back to being the back-up to Pickett after that and someone will offer him way more than what he's get in Pittsburgh.

They just cut the other QB McSorley from the practice squad too though. So technically they have 2 under contract, with 1 probably getting dealt or cut.

Vinny Testaverde sucked from the get go was an interception machine and stuck around for 20 years

Someone will sign Mitch if he’s not here

It's funny you should mention Testaverde, I was going to mention him. At least Testaverde had some talent. Tall, strong arm, Van Pelt didn't have a fraction of Testaverde's physical ability, but he stayed in the NFL for a pretty long time. Trubisky is a way better athlete than Van Pelt was

That is crust of it, cut him before the March bonus and eat it all this year, or lose the cash and spread it out. I think it will come down to FA and how quick they sign the guy they want. March 13 is the official FA start day, but the league allows a 2 day 'tampering' period this year, so thats the days to watch.

I forgot just how bad his Int's were. He had one good year 29 td to 7 int and a 101 rating, the other years he was an int magnet, lol.
