At least he did not send out our franchise QB only to have him get hurt worse and possibly affect his career forever. You would have thought that Shanahan and the rest of the league would have seen that when your QB is visually hurt you don't put him back out there just by watching us loose to the Ravens the first time around.

actually, he did just that last season against the 49ers when it was clear that ben could barely walk let alone play effectively

I seem to remember Leftwich spending a half clutching his side and having trouble throwing, but Tomlin didn't think there was anything wrong.

I laugh at people and media who think like this....the same media who was KILLING Cutler for taking himself out of the playoff game a couple of yrs ago. If the doctors "clear a player to play", then that's what the coach has to go on. If your star QB says he's good to go after being cleared, you play him. (See Minnesota Vikings for reference.)

I agree 100% but somehow Ben did not get hurt worse and put his carrier in jeopardy.

no he didn't, but he could've, and that's the point.... a player with any type of fire inside will try to get on the field no matter the cost.... it's up to the coach to see the bigger picture and make the right choices.

    Exactly!
As usual, I blame good ol' ESPN for making their own headlines.

Let's see..., our team (Redskins) sucks, we drafted a QB who lead us to a division title, now we're in the play-offs.
Let's just give up our chance because the QB might be hurt.

I could just see this board if, during a play-off game, Ben gets sacked, starts limping and Tomlin sits him on the bench, then we lose.
    This site would melt.

Yeah, thats kind of where I stand too. Its a judgement call and RG3 says he is good to go, so being that he gives you the best chance to win, he stays in the game. You are playing for that one game when you are in playoffs - one and done.

The longer the game went on, the more Shanahan should have seen that RG3 was not okay, and getting worse.
Could have pulled him after the first quarter, when they were up 14-0.
Even if he waited until halftime, the Redskins were still leading then, and Cousins would have had more time to prepare.

    1. What you probably mean to say is "...IF the coach lies about the doc clearing someone to play.."
    2. The article references the situation in the Baltimore game, not the playoff game.

In the article, you either have a coach trying to cover his derriere or the doctor trying to cover his. At the end of the day, RG III is the only one who knows how he feels and is man enough to make the final call...just as he said himself.

Trying to keep it Steelers...but if after that the Seahawks come back and win 21-14, everyone would be criticizing Shanahan for being "too protective" and conservative...costing the Skins a playoff victory. The guy is in a no-win situation without a victory.
