    Typically not a good idea.

Steelers playing Trubisky over Rudolph - resulted in 3 losses

Colts taking Taylor off the field for Goodson - resulted in no conversion on 4th and 1. Their season is over.

    Play your best players.

Were you saying that Mason was better than Mitch and should’ve been named the #2 qb instead, when it was announced after training camp?

It would appear Mason failed to prove he was the best player in the 6 years of fair chances and golden opportunities he was given

It would appear he decided to wait until 3 games ago to show it

So be it he looks at least average now which is better than Moe and Larry

With respect jeh he looks better then average.

He ends the year with 55 completions on 74 pass attempts for 719 yards and three touchdown passes with zero interceptions. That's a passer rating of 118.02. And that's the second-highest quarterback rating any Steelers player with 50 or more pass attempts has posted in a season.

Maybe Mason wasn’t given the chance to show it. Only so many reps to go around in practice and the coach decides who gets what.

Good point. We should have argued a leftover meatloaf sandwich was better than Mitch.

Rather have a leftover meatloaf sandwich behind the center instead of Mitch the Pick. Plus they are quite tasty!

I think he is surprising everyone this year.

He had a whole season with Ben down to show and prove, and it didn’t happen. And then he could have beaten the lowly Lions at home and he couldn’t.

But I never wanted Mitch either, because I never thought he was much better.

I didn't say anything as I wasn't at training camp. However, most of the people who were at training camp that saw the competition said Rudolph outperformed the competition. While I had no problem with Pickett being named the starter based on preseason performance, it's clear now that Rudolph would have been the better choice than Trubisky. It also appears that even giving Trubisky the #2 position wasn't fatal, but sticking with him after a bad performance vs Arizona and particularly after a TERRIBLE 1st half vs NE was likely due to people with the ability to make that chance being stubborn and sticking with their choice due to not wanting to be wrong both on the choice of playing time and the contract.

Rather than praising Tomlin, is it not accurate to say the stubbornness of sticking with Trubisky cost this team? (Let's not forget this play vs the Pats last year was a playoff killing issue as well)

The point of the original thread is that Trubisky never showed anything that warranted him playing as long as he did over Rudolph. I get why Pickett got the start and that's understandable. Trubisky was stuck with as long as he was because of stubbornness - both of being wrong with regards to playing time and the contract he was given.

If the Steelers didn't believe in Rudolph as much as everyone here believes, why even bring him back in the first place?

    Ok, thanks.
It’s the arrogance in which the obvious is stated after the fact as if they’ve known all along, that gets me.

Well clearly it was because they needed a #3 he knew the system and he was available for vet minimum

That's simple enough to figure out

But if they didn't think he warranted playing, why not use it as a developmental spot? It's not like they needed a 3rd QB. Trubisky never got hurt. The vet minimum is still more than they could have paid a developmental project that they thought had more potential.

I get why they kept him. Again, this was thread was about the stubbornness in choosing Trubisky and his contract. They've admitted it in what they've done in the past 3 weeks, if not in words.

Some of us....went so far back with it, and said We should not draft a Qb, or bring in a FA Qb, and give Mason a shot. I know You can find Me saying it multiple times.

I guess everyone forgot Me???
I said it before KFP was drafted, before Trubisky was brought in, and after.

Yes, we know. Believe me, we know.

At this point we'll have it placed on your tombstone:

"Maintained with every breath until his last one...
...Mason should have been the starter in 2021
    "

With all due respect, the repeated assertions on this board that Mason had “6 years of fair chances and golden opportunities” is an absolute fallacy. No matter how many times it’s repeated, it’s still false.
